Thread: Indiana University Athletics Thread 2012-2013

The amazing thing about it is I don't think any of us saw it coming with Victor. We have loved his energy for a long time, and frankly last year half the mentions of him were "Sheeladipo" referring to the boost of energy we all felt when either or both of those guys were on the court.

But from the low recruiting rankings to his so-so basketball skills as a freshman to his stellar play that emerged last year that still lacked a jump shot, I don't think I ever recall such a late bloomer. I guess it brings to mind Brad Miller, who never bloomed at all until getting to the NBA undrafted, then became an all-star. But from going to "yeah, I think he can start for IU" to "lottery pick" in 4 months is unreal.

I wonder how many times the #1 team has lost and retained the ranking. It can't be that often at all, can it?

Duke #1 in coaches poll, IU #2, Gonzaga #3, Miami #4

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/ncaab/polls/

One explanation is that most coaches have their ballots filled out and submitted before the Sunday games are played.

Wow I'm shocked we fell behind Duke in the coaches poll.

Wow, #3 is too high for Miami. I know they put a beating on Duke, but they haven't really beaten anyone else of note, and they are only barely squeaking by bad teams on the road. Feels like a case of overcompensation for them not being ranked in the preseason.

You could see the physical tools last season, but the amount by which he's improved mentally is unreal.

Hahahaha. For someone that supposedly hates IU basketball and refuses to follow it you sure are up to date on the outcomes of their games.

I know this HUGE win for IU hurt you deeply and I love it. You went through an entire box of Kleenex on Sunday crying yourself to sleep.

You saw flashes of what Victor could become. I am quite shocked has far he has come. I mean he has a legit shot to become POY and if anybody had said that at the beginning of the year even IU fans would have laughed.

They have the #1 SOS. They've played good teams. They also haven't lost since Christmas which I believe is the longest winning streak in the country. That helps them rise a lot.

    UM or MSU tonight?

The easy answer is to root for UM, putting IU alone in first place, but UM has an easier schedule from here on out than MSU, so I guess either is OK.

If UM loses today it pretty much eliminates them from being able to win the conference outright and so I think that is what I am rooting for. Bring it down to either IU, MSU, or Wisconsin winning it outright or there just being some kind of shared title. If UM wins then IU, UM, MSU, and Wiscy still have a chance at the outright title.

That's like asking for death or taxes. I don't like either, not going to cheer for either one.

    **** the other 11 in B1G.

Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

I call . They've only played three ranked teams (Duke, MSU, & Arizona). They're 2-1 in those games (lost to Zona w/o Johnson, so that doesn't really count, to be fair), with both wins coming at home. I don't see how that can possibly boast the #1 SOS.

    Classic case of overcompensation, IMO.

North Carolina State, North Carolina twice, La Salle, Indiana State, and UMass all boost it. #8 in Pomeroy's RPI as well. They scheduled a good non-conference schedule and haven't played the bottom of the ACC yet.

I don't really think any of those teams are particularly good, but they are solid nonetheless. Miami will probably blow a few winnable games between now and the end of the year.

Those teams are very inconsistent, but they have good RPIs. That's what boosts the Miami RPI. I think it's inevitable that The U will lose some games, but with the way they are playing it's hard to imagine it. They are clicking on all cylinders and it's very impressive to watch.

So was Florida before they got shitstomped at Arkansas. So was Indiana before we **** our pants against Illinois. They will drop another couple games between now and the end of the year I would imagine.

It's looking like a very Michigan State night. Michigan's youth and lack of inside players are really on display right now. Gotta love the Big Ten.

Oh BTW the biggest thing about Noel getting hurt is that any idea of Cody staying probably went out the window.

as far as noel goes, i didn't see any good looks of the play to really tell what happened. i didn't notice his knee buckle or anything. of course that doesn't mean he didn't blow out his knee. by judging his reaction- he looks like he did though.
