I don't understand why people keep engaging him

I can't let easily correctable falsehoods stand.

If everyone had him on ignore, nobody would have to correct anything.

"But, first, let us now praise famous moments, because something happened Tuesday night in Indianapolis that you can watch a lifetime’s worth of professional basketball and never see again. There was a brief, and very decisive, and altogether unprecedented, outburst of genuine officiating, and it was directed at the best player in the world, and that, my dear young person, simply is not done."

I would hope so. It is for the top 64 teams in the country. If you don't make it there, you really suck just like IU did in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011. IU was not even a top 100 program in some of those years. That is pretty bad for a team that spends as much money as IU does and has the history that IU used to have.... ...
You're the best. IU made the national title game in 2002.

Well, I haven't been a fan for a long time so I didn't keep track but I did delight in seeing them out of the top 100 a few times.... ...
You didn't keep track when they made the national title game? LOL but yet you did keep track when they dropped out of the "Top 100" whatever that means and here you are in this thread replying as if your life depends on it. A lot of work for a team you care so little about.

I don't keep track of IU except to take delight when they fail. They would have won that national championship if they hadn't fired RMK. One of the top players turned pro because Bobby was gone. That would have put them over the top. Mike Davis was a complete joke. ...

What happened in your life to make you such a miserable human being? I want to learn from your mistakes so by age 65 I am not bitter at the world and taking it out on an internet messageboard. But hey! On a brighter note, we do agree on something--Mike Davis was absolutely a complete joke.

Coaching had nothing to do with that team's run. Wouldn't have mattered, they caught fire at the right time, nothing more, nothing less. Though they were fun to watch when they were bombing away.

I can respect all that, I really can. What I can't respect is your insistence on rubbing all of our faces in it.

    This.

It serves absolutely no purpose. It won't change anyone's mind, especially when "supported" by false data.

Purdue fans who can count to two can keep track of all of the final four appearances in the history of their program (1969, 1980).

Their men's program, that is. They often have a respectable women's program.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

I completely agree with you about the NCAA rules. The problem is your appraoch (as it was with the Colts as well).

Also, I have to unfortunately disagree with you about older folks only seeing what is right in the world, if that was the case we would probably all be in a better place right now seeing as who has the power, but c'est la vie.

Another falsehood. I assume the player you are referring to is Kirk Haston? Haston stayed after Knight was fired and played the 2000-01 season under Davis. He left after 2001 because he was projected to be a mid first rounder (he was drafted 16) and he couldn't resist the money. Can't blame him. IU then went to the championship game without him.

Sorry to the people who don't want to see him quoted, but his misinformation throughout the thread is too easily correctable to let stand.

We will disagree. You are right that he stayed one season under Davis but Knight had done a lot for Hastin personally and he made it clear he was leaving because Bobby was no longer the coach. I think he lost his mother in a tornado and Knight was very supportive. I remember it that way but I am not completely sure. I do recall Hastin in the press conferance and Davis was not there and he talked about Knight.... ...

But if he was leaving because Knight wasn't the coach, then why didn't he leave in 2000 after Knight got fired? Why did he play a season under Davis, in which the team basically had identical success to Knight's final team a year before? I agree with you that he was obviously very fond of Knight. Knight recruited him, coached him for two seasons, and supported him during an awful personal tragedy. Clearly he was close to Knight and I'm sure he preferred him over Davis. But I just don't think that's why he left. He saw that he was going to be a mid first rounder and that his draft stock would likely never be higher. He had the opportunity to cash in and make some money for himself and family after a brutal personal tragedy. Certainly can't blame the guy.

Yep. The memorable buzzer beater against MSU.

Heck, his best season was clearly the 2000-01 season under Davis. That's not even debatable:

Davis has been villified to such a point where it is kind of ridiculous. The guy wasn't great by any means, but he wasn't really any worse than Knight's last few years here.

Agreed. His biggest fault was his failure to snag quality Indiana recruits.
