MSU couldn't shoot more over their heads if they tried.

If we hang on, we will have made it harder than it had to be (despite their shooting) due the TOs and FT shooting.

I like the Ferrell-Oladipo-Sheehey-Watford-Zeller lineup. Wish we went to it more.

This Boiler game Wednesday has all the makings of a trap game: Big win over Sparty on national TV, huge College GameDay showdown with likely #1 Michigan Saturday, Purdue is unassuming but dangerous. I am not chalking that one up as a win. They are going to give us everything they've got.

Too many turn overs. STUPID, LAZY turn overs. That needs to get fixed before it bites them in the *** hard.

There was a brief, and very decisive, and altogether unprecedented, outburst of genuine officiating, and it was directed at the best player in the world, and that, my dear young person, simply is not done."

yeah, they can't afford to overlook purdue. if they do- they could easily lose. tom needs to drill it into their heads they can't look at the next game as a warmup.
for oladipo- i will miss ya dude.
he is the best player on the team. the impact he has all over the court is very impressive. not only a great athlete who can make exciting offensive plays but- he can play some serious D too. 6 steal and 3 blocks.... holy smokes!
he is playing lottery ball this year.

What an odd turn of events. At the beginning of the season I thought Cody was for sure, without a doubt, no question leaving for the NBA after the season (and said as much on here). I thought Victor could, but he would need to go gangbusters (which he has done). Now I'm fairly certain Victor will (and should) go pro, and with Cody I'm not so certain he should or will.

I hope IU is done playing zone defense. They have enough trouble guarding the perimeter in man-to-man.

If it can keep Hulls on the floor while minimizing his negative impact on D, it will continue. It might not be as frequent as it was today but it will probably continue.

    Cody should come out.

Next year's incoming class is really strong at the top. Wiggins is a lock to go #1 IMO, he wont be able to rise much if any. Plus another year scouts kind of get fatigue of a player I would think he has to come out.

I am selfishly pissed Victor has improved so much #'s wise. He was tearing up summer league like this vs Alec Burks and other nba pros years ago could tell he would be a worst a really solid NBA pro. I loved him for the NBA since he was a freshmen and now we cant get him ****.

Stock wise--you're right. But Cody doesn't operate under the normal rules of college hoop stars. He seems to enjoy college and value his education. His family doesn't need the money, so it's conceivable that he comes back for another year. Do I think he will? No, I don't, but it's suddenly not as crazy as it once was. Yes, those of us that have watched IU over the years all saw what you saw as well, no back patting necessary. He's always been a jump shot away from the lottery, and that's ultimately where I think he ends up.

I know this is going to sound mean--but Creek has no business playing anymore.
Sad but true. His career will be one of the big what if's in IU history.

So here's my take, that was a war and we still won against a team that has a size advantage on us (MSU basically rolls out an NBA lineup size wise) and a team that shot way, way, way over their heads (they are shooting 34% from 3 on the season, Payne had the same number of 3s today as he had hit all year coming into the game).

These two teams are going to be big factors in March because they have that rare combination on offense of being able to score inside and out. In fact, MSU and IU are probably both built better for March than Mich which lacks a true interior scoring presence.

I don't know how Derrick Nix manages to play more than two minutes. He looks like he consumes several team meals all by himself every day. But the guy certainly knows how to use his giant *** on offense and defense. Made Cody's life a living hell on both sides of the court today. Glad Cody was still able to shake it and make two key plays.

What can you say about Vic that hasn't already been said? If he is not a top ten pick in this draft then I don't know who is. His jumper is lightyears ahead of where it once was and his defense and pacing is just otherworldly right now. Made everyone else look like they were moving in slow motion.

Yogi is special. His command of this team for a freshman is truly impressive. We are lucky he is smaller otherwise he wouldn't be here very long.

I give credit to Perea for keeping a big wide base and drawing the 4th foul on Nix when he gave him the chicken wing. That was smart defense. When it clicks for him he will be a very valuable player, hopefully it happens this year. Ditto for Hollowell.

Hulls free throw shooting is just bizarre. I have no idea what is going on, but did someone voodoo curse him? When was the last time he hit 2 in a row? The most unexplainable event surrounding this IU team right now.

The zone D. Here's my take, I liked how we were using it early, swapping it in every 5 possessions or so just to give MSU a different look. We started relying on it more and more as the game went on and I don't like that, but I do like showing it as a change of pace. That being said, there is absolutely no reason to run the zone this Wednesday against Purdue, which I agree is a trap game. We need to play man to man that game and not let them hit like 15 3s as that is their best shot. I think Yogi can really dominate that game if he is hitting his jumper as he has been the past couple games.

All things considered, any time you can beat a Michigan State team that is playing well you take it and run. Really solid job by the Hoosiers all things considered. MSU was not going to let us check out without a fight...though you wonder what might have happened if Vic's three had dropped when it was 28-19 IU....

IU/Purdue weeks are especially fun for me. I will enjoy wearing my IU apparel around Purdue's campus more than the usual. I'm considering going to the game at Mackey, but I'll probably cheap out and watch from home. Still, those $50 tickets on CircleCityTickets and StubHub are tempting.
