Thread: Indiana University Athletics Thread 2012-2013

That was the school requesting to play a second road game. Not the organizers telling a school that they would be breaking from pattern.

And theres a big difference between playing 2 road games in a row upon request, versus getting two home games in a row.

Not to mention that IU wasn't supposed to be very good that year. Wasn't exactly a big marquee game.

Why break from pattern, when you have both UNC and NC State which will offer great storylines.

Yeah, but the whole point is that they could do it if they wanted to. Which they can.

I don't think they will to me IU at UNC for a rematch is much juicier anyway with both teams bringing in top 5 recruiting classes.

If the powers that be approached IU and said, "Hey, I know you guys played two road games in a row in the Challenge, what would you say about hosting Duke next year?" It wouldn't even take Crean a second to agree to that. Duke couldn't get pissy because they just hosted a game this year. Say the powers that be approached Duke and said, "Hey, I know you just played at home last year in the Challenge, but would you be okay with hosting Indiana next year?" They would not bat an eyelash and, again, Indiana just hosted a game so they would be fine with it too. If it was the clear marquee matchup, the Challenge folks would be all over making it happen. Two blue-blood programs that haven't met in a while on the court--pretty enticing.

That said, a potential IU/UNC rematch in Chapel Hill is equally as enticing. Really, it just depends on the outlooks of the teams next year. I personally think NC State is more of a long shot because a) I think they were overrated to start this year and aren't that good b) Mark Gottfried has a history of recruiting talented kids and failing to coach them up. He recruited well (but not this well) at Alabama before underwhelming with his on-court product.

IU is working on sweeping the Tar Heels this week. The men's soccer team is in quarterfinal action right now against North Carolina with a trip to the College Cup on the line.

The Hoosiers are up 1-0 midway through the second half. Watch live here: http://t.co/xmSAxpfB

IU is the first one into the Cup. The rest of the quarters are to be played this weekend. It's a wide open field at this point, really.

You can make a case that all of the team's remaining IU has the most impressive resume and is peaking at the best time.

This game versus Coppin State has been just horrid, to be honest. Sheehey and Oladipo are bringing it though.

Jeff Howard cannot be stopped on the block! (..though he can be stopped from the free throw line.) It was a messy game but nothing worth getting in a fuss over.

Always great to win a sloppy game by 36. Even if it is against a nobody. Alot better than losing the game.

Dear Sheehey and Oladipo, please stop bringing it every single game. Please only bring it enough to get the W. We want you back next year.

That game was so boring. I wish Crean had put together a better schedule. We've still got barnburners with Central Connecticut State, Florida-Atlantic, Mount St. Mary's (are they even D-1?) and Jacksonville to look forward to.

Good lord that is a horrendous schedule. I hadn't really seen IU's schedule until now. I had no idea it was that bad.

Granted, the Big Ten is absolutely brutal but that out of conference slate is something else. Georgetown looks like it could be a top-20 or so team but ti's resume basically consists of going to OT against IU and beating an overrated UCLA. North Carolina is rebuilding and seems to be pretty bad. Granted the two times I've watched them are the two times they've been blown out but their ranking seems almost entirely based on reputation. Butler doesn't have one of it's better teams but may end up in the tournament. Those are the only 3 of the 13 non-conference opponents with even a prayer of making the tournament.

I have to imagine some of these games were agreed to before Crean knew how good a team he would have. Hopefully next year the competition is slightly better.

And while I agree that this break is horrendous torment, take comfort in this face Ownagedood, Crean is using this week to recruit.

Crean is in his fifth season. Did he really not expect to have a good team by now? If the team disappoints last year I don't think it's unreasonable to question whether he'd even be there now.
