How have the Hoosiers never been to the college world series? I don't really follow college baseball that closely. Is the Big Ten a weak conference when it comes to national baseball? Anyhoo.....congrats to the Hoosiers. They are playing great right now. I've been watching a lot of the regional games this year. Some really good games.

This is IU's first appearance in the CWS and the first appearance for any Big Ten team since 1984. That is how big this is.

IU baseball had really done quite little prior to this season. They made the NCAA tournament in 1996 and 2009 but had won a total of ONE game in the postseason coming into 2013. Make it six wins and counting now.

Thanks for the info. How can the mighty Big Ten be that far behind in baseball?

If kids want to play baseball in college they go pretty much go south. Definitely not the midwest.

Yep. When the college baseball season begins, it's March. Down in the South and in places like Arizona and Texas, that's fine. They can practice and play games outdoors no problem. They have better facilities and can play all these games at home in an outdoor stadium. Part of what made Indiana's season so remarkable is that they amassed this amazing record while basically playing the first month of the season on the road in places like Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. What Tracy Smith has done with a largely moribund IU baseball program has been nothing less than extraordinary.

College World Series Game 1 goes to the Hoosiers, and they're in the winners bracket in their pod. IU will play Mississippi State at 8pm EDT on Monday night!

This is an incredible run, but this team is not a cinderella. Lots of legit talent on this roster and Smith and the rest of the ath. dept. should be proud. IU is becoming a well rounded world class sporting college. Not to say we weren't already and competitiveness in football is still a major issue, but our pretty much across the board briliant facilities and the across the board success of our teams is something to be very proud of. Especially in a sport like baseball where it is incredibly difficult to build a winning program pretty much anywhere north.

Our run in the College World Series is also setting us up for the men's Capital One Cup.

Need to finish #7 or higher in the final baseball poll to pass Texas A&M. Have we done enough? I think we were around 12 or 13 entering the tournament. FSU was #7 and I can't see how the pollsters could justify keeping them higher than us when we beat them on their field twice and went farther than them.

The game last night was frustrating to watch. I kept expecting IU to put up more offense, but alas, they couldn't make it happen. Elimination game(s) for the rest of the week.

Three feet from making it happen. That last inning double hit the wall three feet below the yellow line. So close. IU has some good hitters so I'm not counting them out. Can they get enough out of their pitching?

Sad to see the season end. The greatest IU baseball team ever gave it their all.

I was thinking the bats would come through but the pitching might be a little shaky. Exactly the opposite happened. Really enjoyed watching the run this year.

This team has everything in the world to be proud of and a lot of them will be back next year. Worst slump of the season just came at the wrong time. That's baseball for you.

IU can play with anyone in the country, that is what we learned this season. They lose some players but a lot of core guys will be back like Schwarber and Coursen-Carr.

Will Sheehey and Yogi Ferrell made the final 12-man roster for Team USA and will travel to Russia to compete in the World University Games next month.

Congrats to them. Hopefully playing with and against other high level players will improve their game even more.

Yep, he was pure energy and hustle out there on the court and carried IU at times last year simply with his effort.

Players like him don't come around very often. How often does a kid ranked outside the top 100 improve that much in three years and go from off NBA scouting charts to the #2 pick? Amazing.

Further testament that rankings services are fun, but ultimately mean nothing. Give me a gym rat that fits a system over a Shabazz Muhammad type any day of the week. That's not a knock against Muhammad either.

Oladipo had an impressive showing in his summer league debut: 18 pts 7 ast 6 reb and 5 stls in a win over the Celtics.

Yogi and Sheehey each scored 15 points in Team USA's dominant 140-46 win in their opener of the World University Games.

Losses to Australia and Canada means they don't even make the medal round. How does this happen? USA Basketball is on a pretty good run right now but this is a black mark.

Well obviously it means that Yogi and Sheehey are completely worthless and are a national disgrace. They should have their citzenship revoked.

Did any Butler players even make the team? No question the US would have won the gold with a Butler player on the roster.

The fact that every post you make in this thread is either a direct or subtle jab at IU does not go unnoticed.

Crean and Co. are putting on the full court press to land Goodluck Okonoboh, a highly rated 2014 big man. He is good friends with Noah Vonleh.
