Hopefully the 2013 freshmen are a hell of a lot more ready than the 2012 class but I know very little about any of them.

Yogi and Sheehey seem to be the only sure starters. Vonleh probably if he is as advertised.

Perea and Hollowell need to get a whole hell of a lot better. I guess my mostly uneducated guess would be as follows:

    Yogi
    Sheehey
    Hollowell
    Vonleh
    Perea

CBS has them as the preseason #23 team in the country. It's hard for me to see that group being a top 25 team.

    http://www.cbssports.com/collegebask...story/22036310
Andy Katz at ESPN has them at #19.

I think the lineup you posted is what Crean would like to see, but I'm not sure it will actually happen. Yogi, Sheehey, Vonleh are starters, period. Hollowell probably is in there, and Perea...I think Fischer could come in and push him. Regardless, I think we will see IU play small a lot next year. Vonleh/Hollowell/Sheehey/Remy/Ferrell lineups will probably happen quite a bit. Wildcards are the freshmen and Remy. Williams and Robinson could come in and start by year's end, and if Remy steps up and shows some marked improvement, I think Crean could justify starting him at the two and going with a Yogi-Remy-Sheehey-Vonleh-Perea/Fischer lineup.

IU can definitely be a top 25 team if Yogi and Will take on the scoring load and the 2013 class plays up to its collective ranking.

I definitely can't see Butler as a top 25 team though.

Putting two guys in the lottery only does good things for IU in the long-term. Elite players want to go to a school that puts kids in the NBA and as HIGH picks.

Never heard of them, but they have Butler at #22. Before you try to discredit them, they also have Indiana at #16.

While I'm making predictions, here's one more:

Indiana will lose Zeller and Oladipo to the NBA draft. Couple that with losing seniors Elston, Hulls, and Watford, and the talking heads will predict our demise and we will start next season either ranked in the 20s or not ranked at all. We will be much better than this though, because of the development and growth of Yogi Ferrell, who will end up an All-American in his sophomore season.
I made this post February 10th. Looks like I'm right on losing Zeller/Oladipo, but that's hardly a surprise. Judging by the super early preseason polls, I was at least in the ballpark on where we will be ranked preseason. Hopefully I'm right on the last part.

Speculating on the starting lineup for next year has proven to be both fun and depressing.

I think it all comes down to Fischer. Can he be Zeller 2.0 or is the hype undeserved?

    I think it will be

    Yogi
    Sheehey
    Williams
    Vonleh
    Fischer

Yes, I think we will start 3 freshman, but there is a lot of raw talent in those 3/4 spots.

I'm not sure Jeremy is quick enough to start at the 3 especially with how we use the 3. Remember Vic was basically the 3 for much of this year. Troy Williams seems to match those abilities the best. Vonleh could be an improved version of Watford right away (though Watford's experience is obviously worht a lot).

Fischer is the wild card here. He is getting incredible, incredible reviews from anyone that watches him.

I think we will end up a 4 seed or so in next year's tourney and should at least hit the second weekend again. I am concerned though how about the fan base would react to a possible third straight sweet 16 loss. I think next year's team could be fun though and surprise a lot of people, especially if Fischer/Vonleh and Yogi can run a nice pick and pop game.

Did anyone else see Yogi's mom tweeting some crazy stuff yesterday? I'm a little unnerved with this whole PT's head coach going to UCLA thing...

I think the fan base would be pretty excited if we got back to the Sweet 16 next year considering all we have lost. It's one thing to be upset about losing in the Sweet 16 when you are a 1 seed and had national title aspirations from day 1. It's a whole different animal with the tempered expectations and uncertainties regarding next year's team.

I'm not the least bit concerned about Yogi's mom's tweets.

It was something about how Victor going was obvoius, but not everything else about what will happen with this team will be obvious. I'm not sure what it was about.

Seems too high on both accounts. I think Butler and IU will be pretty similar next year. Mid level tournament teams who need to pull a decent sized upset to get out of the first weekend. 6-9 seeds.

The Big Lead is a relatively well respected blog though. It was good enough (or at least well read enough) to get bought by USA Today.

Yep, he's done at IU. Yogi is transferring to UCLA too, according to "sources." Once Ed Schilling (his coach at Park Tudor) joined Alford's staff, Yogi decided to leave. Jurkin is gone, Creek is gone...I'm missing someone else, too.

I wish college basketball players were minors so we could stop all this bolting for the NBA crap. Main thing I hate about college ball. These days you don't even know who's going to be on the team from year to year. Main reason I think at some point a team like Butler may win it all. A school with really good players to play as a unit ALL 4 years not just one or two. Problem is if one player gets a big head or somebody tells him his stock is up there goes the bolting again. LOL

They need to adopt a rule like MLB. Baseball takes a lot of crap for its unusual, outdated rules, but they've got it right when it comes to early entries. Players still have the option of going pro straight from high school, but if they sign with a college they have to wait at least 3 years. Until basketball does something similar, roster turnover will continue to happen and players will continue to leave before they're ready for the pros.

It's affected both college and the NBA negatively. College teams are hurt by the revolving door of players coming and going so quickly while NBA teams are taking on young, unpolished players who aren't physically ready to play with the best the world has to offer. It started when Kobe and LeBron took the league by storm and GM's all went crazy trying to find the next big phenom. Hence the reason for mock drafts and merely average college players tabbed as projected lottery picks simply because GM's like their bodies.
