Good lord that is a horrendous schedule. I hadn't really seen IU's schedule until now. I had no idea it was that bad.

Granted, the Big Ten is absolutely brutal but that out of conference slate is something else. Georgetown looks like it could be a top-20 or so team but ti's resume basically consists of going to OT against IU and beating an overrated UCLA. North Carolina is rebuilding and seems to be pretty bad. Granted the two times I've watched them are the two times they've been blown out but their ranking seems almost entirely based on reputation. Butler doesn't have one of it's better teams but may end up in the tournament. Those are the only 3 of the 13 non-conference opponents with even a prayer of making the tournament.

I have to imagine some of these games were agreed to before Crean knew how good a team he would have. Hopefully next year the competition is slightly better.

And while I agree that this break is horrendous torment, take comfort in this face Ownagedood, Crean is using this week to recruit.

Crean is in his fifth season. Did he really not expect to have a good team by now? If the team disappoints last year I don't think it's unreasonable to question whether he'd even be there now.

Crean is using the Jim Boeheim approach to scheduling--which is to say cupcakes galore before your brutal conference schedule kicks in. I don't really like it and wish we had a few more games against teams that weren't horrendous, but it is what it is.

Alot of these games could have been agreed to before last year. Before that Crean had only managed to get 12 wins from a team. And while he might have thought he would have a good team. There was no way he would have known he would have the #1 team in the country.

If we hadn't had so many cupcakes maybe we lose a few games, thanks to Perea and Jurkin being out. That would lose us our #1 ranking which helps with recruiting. Not to mention these blowouts do alot of impressing in order for us to get talented players like Noah Vonleh.

We play in the Big Ten, a league where our RPI is going to be fine. There really isn't that much to gain from scheduling good teams out of conference. So why do it?

I would argue that losing 1 out of 3 games against legitimate opponents will help a team out more in March than beating 3 Northeastern Conference teams (3!!) by 40.

In March, no one will remember who IU played November and December. There is really no reason to play a tough out of conference schedule when you are in a good conference, you can only hurt yourself.

The NCAA selection committee will certainly remember who IU played in November and December. Let's say Louisville, IU, Duke, and Michigan all end up with comparable records. Even if there's a consensus that those four teams are the #1 seeds, at least two of them are going to be forced from their regional in the tournament. They look at the schedule to determine the differences between those schools. Not saying those 4 are #1 seeds for sure but schedule will enter the equation on Selection Sunday.

And IU's schedule is plenty tough simply because of the Big Ten.

We got an A-10 team on our schedule we will beat by 40 too.

Ya we have 10 games (11 if you count G'Town who was underrated before we played them) on our schedule against top 25 teams in the nation. Your performance through those will easily be enough to show the committee if your the real deal or not. Doesn't really matter if the rest are teams that don't have a shot against you, if you play that many top teams in the nation you will have enough to show for.

Thats crazy. Personally I like the guy, but others don't quite share my opinion on him.

He's passionate about the program and committed to winning. You can't ask much more of the coach for the football program at IU.
