I know Butler is very good, scrappy, well-coached, etc, but a number 1 team should never lose a game against an un-ranked team on a neutral court in its home state where the crowd breakdown is about 65-35 their favor (according to someone I know who was there).
Or looked at another way... A team like Butler never should've been unranked....

Both Xavier and Illinois gave them a good pounding.

I can't imagine how those Butler kids couldn't already write a book on IU basketball before Stevens even mentioned this game this season.

All those second chance points IU allowed in regulation came back to haunt. Blocking out is purely effort. IU didn't want to block out half the time. Butler won this game on pure heart, hustle and mental toughness.

Life on the road in the Big Ten will be fun! Can't wait to see Zeller getting pushed around while our mental midgets cave in to the raucous crowds they'll face.

Butler should have been ranked ever since they took UNC to the woodshed.
They got bulldozed by Illinois in the very next game. They also got mowed down by Xavier earlier in the season. Outside of UNC, their wins were Marian, UIndy, Elon, Marquette, Hanover, Ball State, IUPUI, Northwestern. That's not a resume' that deserves to be ranked, IMO. They would probably have been ranked if they had beat either Xavier or Illinois. But those two poundings hurt them. Obviously they should be ranked after today.

I wasn't meaning to act like we just witnessed the impossible here, or that Butler isn't good. But a number one team should not have lost this game. In regulation, Butler had the best big man in Smith. He completely outplayed Zeller on the glass. That's something I'm not going to just write off because Butler played hard. Zeller can't get run over like that in Big 10 play.

    outhustled, outsmarted, outcoached...

    ouch that one hurts

I get playing offense/defense with Cody, but we really needed to do it with Jordan Hulls

I love IU, but Butler is a legit program that did not have a good run and that is it. These Bulldogs are here to stay.

Hulls on D is going to be a problem this season. This game really underscored it. Not a hot newsflash per se, but an issue that will present major challenges pending matchups.

I give full credit to Butler for doing what they always do- playing extremely tough physical basketball with an intensity that is second to none.

That being said there is no excuse for IU to lose to them. Crean was out-coached and this team still is bad away from home. The NCAA tournament isn't played in Assembly Hall.

Butler is fundamentally sound. IU still can't figure out how to make FTs or box out or rotate defensively. What does Crean do in practice? He is an older Josh Pastner.

Playing three more cupcakes before conference season starts won't do anything to help this team or get them ready to play away from home.

Jordy is actually OK on D in the traps and pressure D because he has good hands, but in the halfcourt, yuck

Stay classy Butler. You have given IU fans plenty of grief so get off your high horse. I must have missed where you played in the game or did anything to contribute to the victory. I'm sure you and the four other living Butler alums will have a great next few days.

i will give butler credit- they won. zeller was a non factor on the glass and so was watford. when the smallest guy on the team gets as many rebounds as those two combined- they simply aren't doing their job. during the time out there- smith definitely outplayed cody.
the hoosiers really couldn't hit any jumpers with any consistency.

IU fans acted like we won the championship last year when we beat UK. It was a certainly big moment and we deserved to celebrate. But just because we're on the other end of it right now doesn't mean that we should expect Butler fans to be silent about their victory. This was a huge huge huge victory for Butler and they deserve to gloat about it. They just beat the number one team in the country, which also happens to be in the same state. And they did it in the city they call home.

While I am still a bit shocked at the loss. I can live with it, if they learn from it. UK learned alot from their loss against us last year. We have to do the same thing.

Right, but outside of UNC, the wins were Marian, UIndy, Elon, Marquette, Hanover, Ball State, IUPUI, and Northwestern. And they got creamed by Xavier and Illinois. My only point was that the Xavier and Illinois losses really hurt them as far as being ranked is concerned. Obviously beating IU yesterday will propel them into the rankings because they will have wins against IU and UNC. But it's easy to see why they weren't ranked before yesterday.

    This is interesting though:

When a team is No. 1, it’s sure to get every opponent’s best shot. Indiana became the latest No. 1 to fall to an unranked team. In fact, 13 of the last 15 teams ranked No. 1 have lost to an unranked team.

    http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-bas...-rotnei-clarke

Tough loss for IU. We were playing against the most successful team in the state over the last few years and had the opportunity to make a major statement on a neutral court in our state capital. Congrats to Butler though. They had the better coach and better big man yesterday. Zeller's production was extremely disappointing. It's not a coincidence that he began to look better in OT when Smith was on the bench. Smith outplayed him, plain and simple. If Zeller gets beat like that on the boards in Big 10 play, then IU is going to have multiple rough games.

You idea of class is thwarted. Have you contributed to anything that IU has done on the court? Does that even matter to be a fan? He came in here very classy and left it alone. Why are you hating? We loss a game to a team that was more prepared and a program that has more success in the last 5 years. It took us awhile to get to the cellar of the state. It isn't going to be an overnight effort for this team. And hopefully yesterday will help these young guys learn mental toughness outside of their home court.
