Thread: Indiana University Athletics Thread 2012-2013

"30 for 30: Benji" is on ESPN tonight. About the #1 high school player that was shot and killed back in 1984. I was a student at IU back then and unless my memory is failing (possible) Bobby Knight was recruiting him. So there might be some IU stuff in the show. Just fyi. He was supposed to be a very good player.

How could you not want to go to IU after HH?

At this point it almost comes down to who commits first. It would be hard to say no to any of these players we have left as possibilities.

I may be crazy but I think Hollowell has some one and done potential too. I think he will push for a starting spot.
In this draft maybe(it's ugly so far and im almost done watching all the returning guys from last year they better improve drastically this year lol) but I havent seen him play much so I wont comment.

I dont know the best place for this comment but man was I impressed with All Access UK the other day on ESPN. I can now see why guys want to play for Cal going in I wasnt really sold. But damn is Cal a great sales man and I loved all the background they did on the players and team. Cal is gonna have to work with Noel he is young so I dont want to say it premature but dude gives me vibes of DHoward off the court very immature.

One more note thinking about transferring to the Kelly School of business, any advice would be helpful anyone attend and have feedback? It's down to IU,KU and a few others just want to make sure I pick the place that will help me reach my goals tough choice.

What are your goals? I graduated from Kelley(Don't misspell that to wrong people btw) and they do a good job preparing you for alot of things but it really does depend on your goals.

Being in basketball operations Scouting Director is my first real goal once I achieve that I may have a bigger one. I am still kind of undecided on what degree I should get. Im working towards a sports management degree right now at Ivy Tech but I have a ton of credits I could go a different direction if need be when I transfer.

Some guys just know the right people. Others have to work there tails off and then meet the right people too . I dont think there is a set degree that people have. I know David Morway and Peter Dinwiddie have law backrounds. Some have statistics degrees others have business management and others are just genius's like Morey in Houston.

Are you looking to be involved with the basketball program at IU or where ever you go? Being a team manager could open some doors in the future. You might want to see what the chances are at the different schools. That kind of experience can be as important as the degree. I know Frank Vogel was a student manager at UK.

Yes i'm looking into all the possible scenarios. I love Frank for what he did basically went into Pitno's office everyday till Pitno gave him a shot.

I'm not transferring until next year at the earliest but I should probably start trying to get connections at the places i'm considering.

ideally I would rather intern with a NBA team than being a student manager or anything for a college team. However I know some guys did get there start in college as video guys or what not.

David Kenney tweeted that IU got another commit from Georgia, pretty sure it is Rashard Fant, a four star corner in the ESPN 150

Fant is saying its not him. I bet it is and he wants his moment. Crazy if he isnt it and we snag another.

I went to Kelley too P4E. IMO you can't beat it's value vs. reputation.

Brief mention. Everette Stephens got interviewed too and some highlights, that was cool, didn't see it coming.

Yeah, they didn't focus much on the recruiting wars. I guess that wasn't too relevant since he never got to commit anywhere.

Stephens had a nice dunk. And I noticed Ricky Calloway was one of the top players mentioned at the Nike camp. He came to IU.

It's been pretty big for a long time. Classes were ranked back in the 80s. It was a big deal when Knight recruited Damon Bailey as an 8th grader.

On Ky, I remember when Shawn Kemp made his campus visit to IU. He was a funny guy who loved to talk, and of course a big-time recruit. He made it 100% crystal clear that IU, or anyone else, was not in the running unless the coaches could do "for him and his family what Kentucky was going to do for us."

Of course he did go to Kentucky, stole the coach's son's jewelry, and was kicked off the team.

I wonder if Eddie Sutton or the KY boosters got his money back. Not for the jewels, but for what they had done "for him and his family." We all knew Kentucky players were paid since forever. It was just kind of funny to hear it straight from one of them, and this was before the Emery money package exploded en route to its delivery to Chris Mills. Kentucky cheats like a dog pants and smiles. All day, every day.

Non-Pacers post of the year nomination?

Sending $1000 to Chris Mills via Emory was about as bad of a use of cheating as when the Illini gave Kenny Battle his own Blazer. These morons in Lexington and Champaign in the 80's were cheating with second-tier players.

Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Well there could be worse times to lose somebody. And lets be honest. Did anybody expect Elston to get a ton of minutes?

I figured Crean would rather just play either a small lineup with more Sheehey or Hollowell. Or play a bigger lineup using more Jurkin.

Hollowell and Watford will just eat up more minutes. Not a huge deal.
