What's hilarious about this is that when JOB was here, he did not normally work with the players. He delegated that to the assistants. JOB only concerned himself with game tape and line ups, and running practice. So i wonder what his role will be with Dallas. I can't imagine JOB tutoring DC about his handle.

I always thought one of the biggest complaints about Jim was he never let his assistants have any say. Although I see what you are saying, you are talking about one-on-one stuff.

But remember Jim was an assistant coach for years and year.

Assistant coach at 6 different colleges, and an assistant coach for 6 seasons in the NBA. So he's been an assistant coach for a lot longer than a head coach. Actually my sense is he is probably better at the typical duties of an assistant coahc han a head coach

So if we see Elton Brand popping 3's we'll all know why then.

How many predicted he'd never work in the NBA again. Or was that just be a head coach again in the NBA. I don't remember.
I'm not sure about predicted. As for how many hoped he would never work in the NBA, that would be a considerably figure.

Spreading the floor with 3s and the like can actually be reasonably effective if you actually have players who are well-suited for that type of play. Josh McRoberts shooting hundreds of 3s a day would not fit into that category of players suited for that type of role, however.

See I guess that is what I don't get (not picking on you, I'm sure many feel the same way) but why do so many want Jim not to work again. I mean that is what bugs me now and bugged me back when he was our coach, it wasn't enough that so many thoiught he wasn't a good coach - OK I get that, but why the ill will. Why the distain, why not wish him well and move on.

I don't hate him. I hope he does well in Dallas. I think there's a good chance his style works better as an assistant.

If I have any bitterness, it's toward Bird for keeping him here too long. But I'm not bitter because I don't think Bird was malicious, just mega-stubborn with a huge blind spot.

Yea, at some point it wasn't Jimmy's fault any longer.

When we could all predict what he was going to do. (Which meant Larry Bird could too) And we all knew what he'd do would be bad for the team (which Larry Bird could too) that meant Larry was just being stubborn. Seems to have all worked out though. Thank you for Frank, Jimmy.

He's just a god awful coach. (Seems like he might be pretty darn good at picking out coaching talent though..)

This is basketball. How poorly he coached the Pacers isn't going to make me hate the man.

From what little I know about him, he seems like a generous person as I have attended some gatherings where he was a guest speaker. I do think he may be so engaged in what he's trying to accomplish, he doesn't think straight when under pressure. I'm sure he acts under pressure, but I don't think he handles it well. Too wound up and maybe a little immature himself by not considering that his words can be daggers.

Last night I dreamt that Jim O'Brien was the coach, but also the bus driver, and I was a player getting on the bus late. It was one of those old yellow buses. He was friendly enough. It was dark. I sat next to him for a bit and we chatted about his upcoming move to Dallas. Then I woke up.

I don't have a point. It was a real dream.

Yeh, he is a good guy. He really needs to get in another line of business. Perhaps he should specialize as an NBA three point shooting consultant...
