How many predicted he'd never work in the NBA again. Or was that just be a head coach again in the NBA. I don't remember.

Funny...So, if Rick's team stumbles and Cuban ends up canning him, then history will repeat itself.

The Mavericks have a great roster for Jim's offense. Dirk, Yi, and Crowder can spread the floor in the big positions, and he has great slashers and spacers in Carter and Beaubois. I'm excited to see what will happen this year.

I have really been wondering when he would reappear. I've tried googling him multiple times over the past year to see if I could find any quotes or opinions... there was nothing. I am interested to see how he does with the Mavs. Assistant coaches are usually more hands on guys with the players. I think he will get along really well with Dirk, who has to be his ideal perfect player x 100.

I thanked your post because I'm very curious what J'Ob's offense can do with talent more suited for this kind of offense. Since Jim isn't the head coach, I'm sure there won't be the head games and stubbornness that we all witnessed with a roster not geared for such an offense.

    Good for him.

The Mavericks are on top of my list of teams to watch besides the Pacers. See how our "could have been backcourt" does, the German twin towers and off course Jimmie boy, working out an offensive play and Rick not paying any attention to it

Just in or just out the playoffs, is where I see them ending up.

Rick C is an smart man all he is going to do is ask "what would Jim do?" and do the opposite.

I'm wondering how much of an influence we'll even notice from JOB given that he'll be Rick's assistant. Maybe Rick will turn the offensive over to him, but I'd be surprised. I'm not sure what exactly he'll ask Jim to do.

Rick's history is he turns the defense over to an assistant. He did that with Mike Brown and he did that with Dwayne Casey. I don't know if Stotts handled the offense.

One thing is clear Rick is more than willing to delegate substantial parts of the offense and defense. I think he did that with Stotts in Dallas as more I think about this I think Stotts handled the offense.

What's hilarious about this is that when JOB was here, he did not normally work with the players. He delegated that to the assistants. JOB only concerned himself with game tape and line ups, and running practice. So i wonder what his role will be with Dallas. I can't imagine JOB tutoring DC about his handle.

So that would suggest, if he's to do that with Jim, that the Mavericks will start over-helping on defense, right?

I am guessing he'll handle the defense. of course that does not curtail Rick and Jim sitting down over the next 6 weeks and setting their defensive system. And then Jim can put it into practice. Pretty common.

Rick hated playing zone defensese, or so we thought, but Casey must have convinved him to play zone because they played a lot of it with good success. Jim hates playing zone, but if Rick convinces Jim that with the Mavs personel, zone needs to be part of what they do, then I'm sure they will do so.
