There is a story from Reggie, I think before a playoff game, one of the kids who was a burn victim in Riley was terminal and everyone knew it was going to be that way. My remembrance of the story, though it has been years since I heard it exactly, is that Reggie sat by the kid's side til he passed away at the child and his family's request and then Reggie went to the game maybe an hour or so before tip shortly after the child had passed and proceeded to absolutely explode that game. Maybe someone else remember's that story as the exact details escape me, but it was an incredibly powerful story when I first heard it.

Looks like we have our first rallying cry of the season Pacer folks. For Lee!

This has to be hard for Roy, but this isn't about him. I heard he's still going, to meet his family. Is that true? And I completely agree about leaving a seat open with a jersey. That would be special.

That story eventually made the press, circa 2000 or 1999. My wife was friends with another family that had a relative in there - he wasn't terminal but he had some bad burns and required surgery, and Reggie called and visited him regularly. That story never made the press. I have no idea, but I suspect this isn't a one-time thing with Roy. And that's when it becomes ultra-impressive.

Roy gets it. If I weren't so far away, I'd be happy to be the "old man" in A55.

Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

What should have been a memorable ending for 12-year-old Lee Eddins unfortunately won't happen.

Eddins passed away Thursday from leukemia, a day before Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert was scheduled to visit him.

Hibbert sadly won't be able to put a smile on Eddins' face, but he still plans to fly to Sacramento, Calif., later today as scheduled where he'll meet members of Eddins' family.

Eddins, a passionate sports fan, was diagnosed with stage four leukemia in February. He had a bone marrow transplant that didn't take in June. An infection in Eddins' lung kept him from having a second transplant.

If there is karma/afterlife, kid will have a front row view of the whole season next year.

I honestly don't remember much about liability cost if something went wrong but this surgery is soooo simple and I was in my early twenties when I didn't worry about such things if you know what I mean.
Wait, did you wake up in a tub of ice in South America?

I agree that we definitely need a marrow donor drive for next season. What a kick to the nards for Roy, and for the family it's flat out off the radar.

    Oh wow.

We all knew the likely outcome, but for it to happen before getting his dying wish... That's harsh.

Well, at least Lee gets front row seats to watch Roy for the rest of his career now. Rest in peace, brave young man.

I have no idea what you are talking about....to summarize the kid was already given a timetable on his life...his dying wish was to meet Roy Hibbert, and Hibb was happy to oblige. Sadly the poor guy didn't make it long enough to see his last wish fulfilled.

I don't really know what to say that hasn't already been said. Sad, sad news. I saw Wells's tweet and it just put a damper on everything. Really glad to see that Roy is still going out there. There aren't enough people like him left these days.

    RIP Lee

Right, that's what we and Roy had been talking about.

I wasn't sure if there was info that hadn't been released in that or you just hadn't kept up.

I always thought the process for donating bone marrow was more involved and risky, but you can bet I'll be getting on a donor list sometime soon.

Just a tragic story. I keep welling up reading stories and posts about this kid - both out of sadness for him and his family, but out of pride in Roy as well.

Just an update: Roy helped host a bone marrow donor registration event today at Castleton Square. There was a pretty decent turnout for people to sign up and get on the donor registry.
