That was a pretty subpar opening ceremony. The the fire rings and Mr. Bean were the best parts. Oh, and giant Lord Voldemort.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

I, for one, love every friggin' thing about the Olympics and will watch as much as possible.

There was a brief, and very decisive, and altogether unprecedented, outburst of genuine officiating, and it was directed at the best player in the world, and that, my dear young person, simply is not done."

eh, wouldn't surprise me if tiger is retired by then. he hasn't been relevant in golf for years. and his embarrassing incident guarantees he will never carry the flag.

    what retire??

there is no way he retires unless his body totally collapses. Tiger is fine he just needs to get his putting back honestly he is a better ball striker than he was when he won all thoes majors with Haney only difference is putting and short game. He will win several majors before those Olympics.

Tiger will be playing at a high level of Golf well into his 60s with how good of shape he is in. Tiger will be 41 by the time thoes Olympics are here Ernie Els just won the last major he is 42. Phil Micklson didn't start winning majors until he was in his mid 30s. In golf you can still be very good for a long time some even get better as they age. Many great golfer have competed well until their twilight years Vijay, Jack, Sam Snead ect.

Tom Watson was one bad break away from winning the open at 59. saying Tiger will retire is crazy IMO

I hope Phil Dalhausser (beach volleyball) dominates like he did in 2008. I honestly thought that was more exciting than Phelps or the basketball team.

Mike Gorman of the Boston Celtics announcing team is doing the play-by-play for women's team handball. I keep waiting for Tom Heinsohn to start complaining about the officiating, and giving the athletes a "Tommy point".

One girl from Sweden, she's a soccer player is pretty good looking. Alex Morgan and Hope Solo from our soccer team aren't too bad looking themselves.

Soccer USA dominating Columbia on the ball and two goals disallowed for a foul and an apparent offside, US still leads 1-0.

Oh and Abby Wambach was literally punched in the face and the red didnt pull a card...

Do we know who's doing the USA play by play on NBC? I would like Marv Albert, I love listening to him.

I think Doug Collins is working the game. Not positive though. Let's go Hungary we need another Gold in handball and water polo.

Watching Women's handball, I can't help but imagine the USA basketball team dominating. Can you imagine the top six just stretched out on defense? Lebron leaping from the outer rim of the circle nearly to the goalie's face?

Sadly, the real USA handball team lost to Greenland this year.

In Budapest their are several handball clubs I played a few games at one of them very very good. Im pretty good myself (my dad played on the Hungarian national team not the A team obviously but he was really good.

Many indoor soccer size fields in Budapest and many practice Handball there (very difficult though because most are on grass cant dribble). Maybe the reason soccer was my best sport from all the summers I spent playing on these fields.

Lazlo Czech I though had Phelps damn o well Lazlo has been a beast for almost a decade he had a great run.

I hope we steal a few golds in some other event other than Handball and Water Polo doubtful but it could happen.

I wonder if I tried out for USA's handball team if I could make it doubtful but you never know. I would only play for Hungary though and I couldn't make that team I know that.

The U.S. is going to have to revamp how it trains its athletes for the Olympics if it wants to be the top dog. China is the new dominant force in international athletic competitions. The Chinese are taking over gymnastics, have a stranglehold on diving, and are becoming a major force in swimming as well.

Start plucking babies out of the crib and put them in the pool, on the balance beam, and on the diving platform like they do in China.

Or maybe we could just decide that it isn't THAT important.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

They used to do that behind the iron curtain as well. I agree with Slick, it just isn't that important.

And yet we are still tied with them in overall medal count before we've even hit a lot of our big events, including pretty much all of track and field where China can't even hold our jock. Not to mention, the US Ladies gymnastics team should bring in quite a haul over the next couple days.

Also, China can't even begin to touch us in any of the team sports...that should say something right there.

I didn't know anything about handball other than a vague general concept of how it was played before today, but holy crap, that sport looks fun.
