Re: New Grantland article on Las Vegas Summer League - includes David Harrison
Read this earlier today. It's a very good read. I love the Adam Morrison line about not talking before games because he only ever gets negative interviews. I've grown to like Adam Morrison a lot, and root for him now seeing how self aware he is. -

Early in the 2010-11 season, Harrison broke his leg. While healing, he leveraged some connections to get a job in commodities at a bank in Hong Kong.1
I mean this in the nicest way possible, but I never knew David Harrison was smart at all.Comment

Great read. Every team should have one roster spot filled with a story-guy like one of these. Never thought anything of Morrison since Gonzaga, but after reading this I'd love to have him be our story-guy.Comment

Re: New Grantland article on Las Vegas Summer League - includes David Harrison
The problem Ammo faces is probably needing the offense dictated to him. As a Barbosa type, taking the majority of the bench shots with plays set for him, he could probably score pretty well. A lot of times a guy just needs to be put in the right situation.
Unfortunately a lot of GMs, scouts and coaches bring their predetermined views to situations and try to force guys into roles and overlook better options to solve the problem. You'd think with the money at stake that you wouldn't see some of the really awful choices people make in sports (management I mean), and yet there is no true qualification for the jobs. Usually they give the jobs to guys who were good at doing something totally different (ie, playing) or you have owners with huge money and little sense for who to hire to run the team.
So some scout is going to see a flashy athlete that didn't play particularly well and fall in love with the idea of "fixing him" rather than just taking the boring known quantity as the smart, simple solution.
As for Harrison - drugs weren't the problem, anger was the problem. Irrational anger and an insanely quick trigger. Maybe he's matured but he might have also lost a few steps by now.Comment

Harrison's still in Indy right? Didn't he randomly show up at a game last year in the stands?Comment

Re: New Grantland article on Las Vegas Summer League - includes David Harrison
Harrison sat about 10 feet from me at the final home game (regular season). He was front row baseline across from the visitors bench and he wasn't there all game. Out of nowhere later in the game I look over and there he is and at that range I don't see how I would have missed him prior to that.
It was so random and weird, a guy I didn't expect to see at that game.Comment

Re: New Grantland article on Las Vegas Summer League - includes David Harrison
The article is pretty sympathetic towards Harrison. They miss the parts about how Harrison couldn't play because he had constant minor physical issues. Sometimes not even physical issues but 'personal problems'. He had a decent rookie year, then seemed to have no more desire. After that first year it was like he simply didn't care.
On top of that he is injury prone (with real injuries). Torn calf muscle walking off the court? Broken leg? Wow!
He will not get picked up this year. Or any year.Comment

I'd take a flier on him. If there's a chance he's grown up, he could truly help our front court bench with some scoring."Look, it's up to me to put a team around ... Lance right now." —Kevin Pritchard press conference

Re: New Grantland article on Las Vegas Summer League - includes David Harrison
I always liked Harrison since he had a cameo on the Real World. He's probably too old to make a come back now and there's gotta be hundreds of younger, healthier, more athletic big men dying to take whatever spot he's shooting for, but I wish him the best.Comment

David Harrison had a pot problem when he played with us. I can speak to this first hand, but I'm leaving it at that. NBA wasnt as high of a priority as it should have been.Comment

Re: New Grantland article on Las Vegas Summer League - includes David Harrison
That occured with a couple of players during that time frame on that team. Can you imagine how good they all could have been if they were as dedicated to improving their games as Roy is?Comment

Re: New Grantland article on Las Vegas Summer League - includes David Harrison
That's why I was outraged at the thought, of the mere possibility, that we wouldn't match the Roy max offer. Why wouldn't you want to max a all star center who spends his offseasons killing himself in the gym? I'll invest in that everytime.Comment

Jamaal Tinsley would have been a perennial All Star if he had Hibberts work ethic.Comment
