He is really turning into the leader that we have needed, I love seeing this.

No pink backpacks though. That would be offensive.

Roy makes me proud to be a Pacers fan.

He took them MMA training a day or so ago. Sounds like he's setting a good example.

He tweeted about it on July 23. Said that the Fever had the court so they MMA'd.

Fever was using the court 2day. So I took the rooks 2do a mma workout. Those 2 work hard. Good rooks even better vet!!

It is good to see Roy taking the rooks under his wing and showing them the town and building relationships with them. He is quickly developing himself into a leader and I like this.

Cool, thanks. I missed that one. Saw the pic of him and two Area 55'ers after an MMA workout a week or two ago though.

Of course, he makes a little extra money on the side as a live model for Plump's Last Shot.

I've had a few doubts here and there about Roy the player, but can be convinced.

Never a doubt about Roy the person, Roy the man. In that respect, he's a godsend for this team.

Hibbert has done more towards leadership and great PR than some of the Pacers other supposed "face of the franchise" players ever thought of doing.

Roy was also a huge influence on PG the summer we drafted him.

Honestly, when you think of the two guys who have ascended to the public face of the franchise status over the past 7 years, you couldn't have asked for two better guys than Roy and Danny. What a perfect antidote to the brawl years, two completely respectable guys who whether endearing us via their love of video games or superheroes or in Roy's case stuff like the MMA and his yearly summer workout plan have completely changed the public view of the Pacers. They are honestly a PR person's dream.

As sad as it is, I would say Roy Hibbert has done more than the Pacers own PR department when it comes to reaching out to fans and being active in the community.

Well...sort of. I mean, the Pacers staff actually sets a lot of the fan stuff up. For example, the laser tag game. That all gets organized by the team staff, Roy publicizes it through Twitter and shows up to play with the fans. Roy may be the catalyst (do we know that for sure? hmmm. for all we know he and the PR staff brainstorm fun stuff to do together), but it is the Pacers staff working behind the scenes that actually handles the logistics. Not wanting to take anything away from the Big Fella at all, but he doesn't do it all by himself.

Laser tag was a suggestion from Area55 members as well as Roy during last season. The Area55 trip to the movies was Roy organized, I get the feeling he brought the team into it when a bunch of crazed Pacer fans said they were in.

OK, cool. I was going off Roy's comments here where he says the team handles logistics for him: http://www.fox59.com/sports/wxin-hib...lumn?track=rss

I just think it's important to recognize that some of these things are a team effort, the Pacers staff do have a role in some of this and they are to be commended to some degree too!

I agree. It's sad that we can't have a thread praising Roy without people trying to turn it into a thread bashing the Pacers. Every positive doesn't have to have a negative. And Roy's contribution to the Pacers and the city is a big, big positive.
