Watching this game has made me realize how much I really do miss the presence of Sarunas Jasikevicius. He complains all the time and always thinks he's right. It really is a shame he never turned out to be a good player.

beginning of the 4th, 6 pt game. THey have played us pretty even. Team USA shooting like 55% from FT. I think we win, but I wouldn't rule out an epic collapse here either. You look at the type of shots Durant, Lebron, and Kobe are taking, low quality circus shots.

Although I favor the USA to win gold I would not be absolutely shocked if someone else won.

I would, especially with how Spain has been playing lately.

Lost in all of this is how unimpressive Valanciunas has been so far. I might just go to Raptors forum and see their reactions one of these times.

Granted, the US defended PnR attempts very well, and that's where he excels, but he's partly to blame as well. And he didn't impress in other games either.

Barely beat a team of fringe NBA players.

Yea, they would totally beat the Dream Team.

In fairness, international basketball has come a long, long way since 1992. I sincerely doubt that team would have ran roughshod over opponents today like they did then.

not to mention, the best teams have much more experience playing together now. The 1992 top international teams were put together in a hurry and bootstrapped financially.
Many players also had other things on their minds (civil war / safety of families distracts from basketball).

On the other hand, the '92 US team tends to get mystified. They didn't have much experience playing together either and had health issues. It didn't matter then, but I don't know if it wouldn't matter now, especially vs. the current US team.

Would they come into every game focused, or would it be possible to catch them off guard? There was noone to challenge them back then, so we don't really know.

i read somewhere the players on other teams were asking for autographs after the games ended. times have changed a lot.

    not for everyone: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/olympi...9325--oly.html

i don't know if the main teams were asking for autographs in '92 (Yugoslavian and Soviet Union players had seen some of those guys before), but i remember reading that some player actually asked Magic for an autograph during the game, while he was getting posted up by Magic.

I remember a Tunisia player asked Kobe to sign his shoe while shaking hands post game. That was shown on TV.
