Default Neil Paine has George Hill on Hypothetical Team USA roster

Here's a ridiculous article from Neil Paine on espn.com:
    http://insider.espn.go.com/olympics/...oster-team-usa

The article is based on Bill Simmons' Olympic team-building philosophy:

"The Summer Olympics [is] a blank canvas. ... A chance to build a superior basketball team from scratch -- not an All-Star team, a basketball team. Choosing from 300 of the greatest players in the world, we would want one dominant big man; one quality point guard; one great scorer immediately designated for Alpha Dog Status, two other good shooters, two other rebounders, one athletic swingman who can defend the other [team]'s best shooter, a backup point guard, two energy guys, and a 12th man who will hustle in practice and just be happy to be on the team. If we pick the right guys, we know we're winning the tournament and possibly ending up on ESPN Classic. It's just a fact."
Using this philosophy, Neil Paine would pick George Hill for Team USA's backup point guard spot:

    A Backup Point Guard
    George Hill, PG, Indiana Pacers

There are more than a few candidates who can make a strong case for the "best U.S.-born backup point guard" slot, including ex-Sixer Lou Williams, Denver's Andre Miller and the well-traveled Ramon Sessions. The best of the bunch, though, might just be Hill. He doesn't dominate possessions or do as much playmaking as some of the league's more traditional PGs, but by the same token he doesn't make many mistakes and is extremely efficient with his opportunities, which makes him a better fit on a star-studded team like this anyway. Moreover, Hill is better on defense than Williams, Miller or Sessions.

Sounds especially stupid when you consider that Hill is just basically a poor man's Deron Williams, not a bad thing considering how good Deron is, but why take the imitation brand for Team USA when you can have the real thing?

This has to be one of the dumbest articles I've ever read. It's hard to imagine a Team USA roster ever having more chemistry and fit than the current one has and he uses that against them and says one with a bunch of bench players would be much better. Insanity

This article would have a point if Kobe was boxing Durant for shots and Deron Williams was trying to shank Chris Paul to start at point guard, but they aren't so it's just absurd lunacy. What a waste of bandwidth.

The whole premise is that the team won't be full of superstars and their accompanying egos.

NBA owners who see their superstars play in multiple Olympics with no compensation are pushing for an "under 23" Olympic roster in the future.

If this is the kind of team the USA needs to put together to keep sending seasoned vets and cruising to gold medals then I'm fine with it.

Unfortunately for the owners, the players want to play, at least this generation. Also, this team has had zero problem with egos.

Who is Neil Paine? I wonder if he even watched George Hill this year?
Sounds like the author just wants a more "traditional" team. It would make the oly more competitive but less flashy. Would Space Jam still be good had the aliens taken the power from role players? Answer is of course not! There's a reason why team USA needs to come out strong.

Poor man's Deron Williams? More like Hobo's. Deron is a superstar in this league. George Hill is at best a legitimate starter (He hasn't even proven that he is yet).

I have never seen a valid argument (let alone any argument) with the main point being about space jam. For that I thank you sir.
