Thread: Dwight Howard ready to join Lakers and sign extension with them, UPDATE: No he isn't

Seeing this deal possible makes my mind wander into irrational thought.

Why not offer PG and/or Danny plus West (expiring) and picks? In all actuality it would probably really have be centered around Roy and PG which would probably be better. Keep Danny as a shooter and West's savy veteran leadership next to Dwight and it would be scary. However, I know he doesn't want to be here, won't sign an extension, and we'd probably have to take back some bad contracts as well. Plus, I will take Roy in a landslide if it were a likability contest. Then again the same can be said for Dwight in the talent/athleticism department. I actually don't know if we can even trade Roy yet either, you new CBA gurus would have to enlighten me on that one.

    /end irrational thought

It is just somewhat depressing to think that LA will still be relevant for the next 5 years at least assuming he signs the extension. I want to see them in the doldrums for once/laugh at the moronic part of their fanbase that has unrivaled levels of arrogance. There HAS to be another team willing to risk it all on Dwight and has some assets that is better than what Orlando is getting in the deal.

    Or maybe not. Oh well.

    Just make it end already.

I respect LeBron far more than Dwight. At least LBJ just got it over with.

Please please please, just make it end.

So blow up what we have worked for years to build to acquire Howard (who doesn't want to be here) for 1 year?

Exactly. That's why I said it was an irrational thought. I'm saying him going to Lakers is upsetting enough that I thought about that for a second. That's all I was saying.

My biggest problem with LA becoming a superteam again:

They're lacking at small forward. If Paul George really kicks it up this year, I have a feeling he'll want to play for his hometown Lakers, alongside Kobe, Nash, Dwight, and Gasol, rather than us if we don't do something about it. It scares me, and I hope he doesn't, but it could happen. Kobe would be perfect for PG's development.

So what? We drafted him. If he gets to the point that losing him is unthinkable, we won't have to worry about it for at least 5 more years thanks to restricted free agency.

Like I said in my earlier post this is just a nonsense rumor. It is being put out by the sycophant, Laker loving national media that wanted Paul in LA and now they want Howard. Howard agreeing to LA does not make this trade any more likely than a week ago. They are being used as dupes to drive up the offers from other teams.

Lakers can't take on much additional salary and have no draft picks so they need a team to pay the price for Howard to Orlando and they receive the lesser player in Bynum. Yea that's a hellava deal! Oh and it looks like Bynum and his agent didn't the memo about going to Cleveland.

    http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap...aliers_On_List

Andrew Bynum's agent, David Lee, was surprised to read a recent report indicating his interest in signing a new deal with the Cavaliers.

"When I read it online I was in Alaska with Andrew and his family," said Lee. "I was taken aback by the list considering there is nobody in anybody’s camp he could’ve been talking to. I have no idea where that came about."

The Cavaliers have been involved in multi-team Dwight Howard/Bynum trade talks involving the Lakers and Magic.

The Yahoo! report also included the Mavericks as a team Bynum would be interested in signing with.

Now Howard's agent says he won't sign an extension with the Lakers.

I wish this **** would just go away.

If he's going to the West, the Pacers now have the best true center in the East.

He is killing his trade value and making it virtually impossible for Orlando to move him.

I hope he doesn't mind playing next season on Orlando's roster.

Hennigan must be crying right now realizing how much worse this situation has become. Saying he'll test FA might as well stand for "Unless you trade me, you're SOL." With him butchering his trade value though by saying he'll test FA regardless if he's traded to the Lakers or not pretty much kills Dwight going to the Lakers. Why trade for him if he's going to test FA and give whatever team traded him not as high of a chance to resign him? I know Bynum has one year left as well, but the Lakers would likely have a better shot of resigning him than they would Howard if Howard was traded to LAL.

The next lockout should be amazing. Maybe Dan Gilbert and Mark Cuban will complain enough for people to finally say shut up.

It has to do with a winning tradition that was laid out in previous generations by Jerry West, Magic Johnson and Pat Riley. Players want to be a part of that. Sure, the being in LA angle helps a lot too, but it hasn't done anything for the Clippers.

    Dwight Howard made things worse.

Seriously though, take Houston's offer, and move on Orlando, let them deal with Dwight.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

The location didn't give them the brains to draft Kobe and Bynum.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

They didn't draft Kobe, Charlotte did.

Kobe then pulled a Howard and refused to play for the Hornets.

I will give it to LA though. It was genius to have a former player infiltrate the system in another franchise and conveniently gift wrap their best player to the Lakers for "cap relief".

Boston was able to pull the same "genius" move. If only former Pacer greats could infiltrate the NBA.....
