We DEFINITELY need a backup 2-guard in case Stephenson does horribly in the preseason/start to the regular season. Sure we could do better than Barbosa, but there aren't many better options left that could be had for cheap. We HAVE to find out whether or not Lance is a good ball player or not, so we need to let him play some. But 82 games is a lot, and if we get a key injury or something we'll need someone who can step in and have the ability to score.

I think if Barbosa is okay with Stephenson starting the preseason/ reg season as the backup 2, then we may as well bring him back. He played HORRIBLE in the playoffs, but its kinda hard being a 6'3 guard who's the only offensive option on the floor (when he would be in the game with the rest of the bench) All teams would have to do is clog the lane and he was pretty much screwed lol.

I do remember game 2 against the Heat he scored a few key baskets that helped us win that game. I think him going from the MAIN offensive option on the floor to being just one of the players out there, would definitely help.

Even if he does sign here, I wouldn't imagine him playing more than 10-15 mpg anyways. If he gets hot, great. If not, back to the bench he goes.

There are probably 15-20 players who should be ahead of Foster on the Pacers' number retirement list.
    That seems conservative.

People have kinda forgot that Barbosa seriously sprained his ankle the practice just before the first playoff game, I think it effected him the rest of the playoffs. He played pretty good in the regular season and was a positive factor most of the time, until his horrible playoffs.

I do hope Lance plays good enough to move past Barbosa on the depth chart though.
I mentioned that a few times during the playoffs, but didn't seem as though many were willing to cut him any slack.

And here I thought everyone read all my posts.

For everyone who is upset with Barbosa not distributing well off the bench, none of you seem to remember why he was brought in. We picked him up at the deadline in the middle of a condensed season with no practice and zero opportunity him to be worked into a system, and yet he was still expected to perform and make a difference from the get go. If I remember correctly, Vogel was quite public with the fact that Barbosa's job was to be the first option off the bench, and to just be Barbosa. I may have this incorrect, but I think his first game with us was against the Clippers. His stats from that game: 12 points, 3 assists, and 1 rebound while shooting 50% from the both the field and the arc. Yes, he is streaky, but he put up similar numbers numerous times leading up to the postseason. He did his job for us in the regular season, and I would love if we can bring him back for cheap.

Leandro came in at a time in which we didn't have anyone on the bench that would consistently look to score and could get their own shot.

Tyler was utterly ineffective, shooting a horrid percentage and turning it over.
Lou, same, although he wasn't supposed to be a scorer.
Dahntay had settled into a role as a catch and shoot guy, and isn't going to provide much scoring.
DC/Hill, wasn't there an injury concern at the time with Hill? Or had he possibly taken the starters job?

Regardless, you add Barbosa to that group and take them from a D offensively to a B.

Guys, keep in mind that we are at 64 million dollars in salary, and could not go over for some unknown reason to reach out to other players. This might be the reason that we are holding on to about 4-5 million. Barbosa is playing over in London at the moment. I would not be the least bit surprised if there is a 2 year 10 million dollar deal waiting on him to sign when the Olympics are over.

I didn't realize he had been injured. It was frustrating because he seemed to do a lot of the right things, but totally blow all the shots. Makes some more sense now.

Well, that's that then. I wouldn't have minded if he returned, but I don't mind at all that's he not either.

Did Well's get this info from the same source who told him the Pacers would not match for Hibbert? Or that the Pacers would not be using the 26th pick for themselves?

The experts that are whining Barbosa is no good don't seem to have much knowledge of basketball at all. Barbosa has always been a dangerous bench scorer and someone you want off your bench. He had a slump. It happens to all scorers. The whiners sound like children more than anything and need to get over it. PITY DA FOOLS!

Barbosa needs to sign here if the Pacers are serious about keeping this team going strong.

IIRC, Wells just said he thought we wouldnt match.

I dont think he ever said he had a source telling him we wouldnt match.

    Could be wrong though.

Barbosa has a career field goal percentage of 46.1% and 39.1% from downtown. He actually made 42.4% of his 3's with the Pacers.

Comparing Stephenson's shooting ability to Barbosa's is beyond insulting. Barbosa once made 190 3's in a season while making 43.4% of them. Stephenson has made 4 3's during his NBA stint.

If you honestly believe Barbosa is on par with Stephenson, wow.
I didn't say Barbosa is on par with Stephenson for shooting ability, I said that he can put up shots (from anywhere) and miss with about the same effectiveness as Stephenson. And the stats from last season back me up. He may have made 42.4% of his 3's with us last season, but he shot just under 40% from 2 and overall. You cannot quote a career year for Barbosa that happened 5 years ago with Steve Nash during the prime of Phoenix' dominance as the reason he is better. Lance shot 13% from 3 and shot 37 or 38% overall; I'm okay with that sort of loss for cost.

For a more realistic approach with more detailed reasoning, you should see the post I made that you commented right after.

I hope he is in fact not coming back and our roster is set as it is. I just don't think Barbosa would add much and he wouldn't be worth it, especially since we went and traded for yet another similarly sized 2 guard in the second round.

You are correct... Wells made it perfectly clear that it was his gut telling him that Roy was gone. Not a source.

He may have done his job in the regular season, but not in the playoffs when it matters. Remember when Mike Miller lost his shoe in I think game 5 of the EC semis? He lost his shoe and was guarding Barbosa, an average person with his speed would drive against an already hobbled Mike Miller with one shoe, but no, he shot a 3 and missed. And the times he would drive would be into 4 Heat players in the paint and turn it over. It's decision making like that is why it's good he won't be back. I'd rather have a decent consistent player than a player who sucks most of the time and is above average 10% of the time.

There was never any speculation of Barbosa coming back. Vogel said at the press conference that introduced the re-signing of Hibbert and Hill that Lance would be the backup sg. Besides, we are already over the cap, and Barbosa just doesn't fit in with our system
