He was only gonna play here if we offered him 8 mil+. Same thing with Kaman. He wasn't gonna sign for less here.
So the myth isn't real? Oh no...

He chose the Mavs because he didn't want to go to a lottery team in Phoenix.

I don't get your logic. He took less money ($4.25 M) to play specifically for the Mavs. There is no guarantee that he would have done the same for us.

Edit. Maybe this hasn't been posted yet. The Suns offered him more and he chose the Mavs instead.

He also chose the Mavs because he got what is essentially a 1 year deal. Just like Jamal Crawford last year.

He wouldn't have signed for 4 million for multiple years. This is a show what I can do for a year, and get my real contract.

I'm not the biggest Mayo fan in the world, but for $4.25M a season we should have been all over that.

Very disappointed in our new FO so far.
How do you know Mayo would have been interested in playing for the Pacers and coming off our bench? For that kind of money I hope and I believe that our FO did the best they could to convince him to join us.

to be fair, i don't think our FO had a chance because of the timing.
He was waiting for Phoenix, Phoenix was waiting for the Hornets, and we had no time/didn't want to wait.

If we had "real" cap space like the Mavs (as opposed to "temp" space until Hibbert and Hill were officially signed), we might've done much better.
In hindsight, our free agency looks very rushed. We overspent on some pieces, we wasted some assets; it's very anti-Houston.
But to be fair, there are things we don't know. Maybe Hibbert didn't want to delay that much. Maybe we cleared the cap off Dahntay/DC in hopes to land another piece, and it simply didn't work out.

Actually, that's even more of an incentive for the Pacers to bring him in. Low risk, high reward.

We got Gerald Green for cheaper. If Green continues on what he did last year, I'm perfectly happy having Green over Mayo.

that seems to be the Pacers FO view on things. plus Green is able to cover both wing spots.

Smith said Mayo turned down one contract this summer that was worth $11 million. He said he also turned down an offer from the Phoenix Suns that was worth between $9 million-$10 million so he could play for the Mavs.
Think that 11 mil was us?

I don't think it means per year, just total of the contract. Was thinking we may've offered 2/$11 mil

I think more likely it was the Bobcats or some other young team. Or could just be a ploy by his agent saying, "Some team offered him $11 mil and he declined so if he does good this year, the bidding starts there for his next contract." I don't think it will work out that well if that's the truth but you never know.

Didn't think of that. If it was 2 yrs 11mil then yeah I could see us offering him that.

Augustin/Mayo/Green/Power Forward/Mahinmi is one hell of a bench next year, once we go after Mayo part V - The Empire Strikes Back

Mayo does not want to come off the bench. That is the reason he took less money to play in Dallas......
