He wouldn't have signed for 4 million for multiple years. This is a show what I can do for a year, and get my real contract.
to be fair, i don't think our FO had a chance because of the timing.
He was waiting for Phoenix, Phoenix was waiting for the Hornets, and we had no time/didn't want to wait.
If we had "real" cap space like the Mavs (as opposed to "temp" space until Hibbert and Hill were officially signed), we might've done much better.
In hindsight, our free agency looks very rushed. We overspent on some pieces, we wasted some assets; it's very anti-Houston.
But to be fair, there are things we don't know. Maybe Hibbert didn't want to delay that much. Maybe we cleared the cap off Dahntay/DC in hopes to land another piece, and it simply didn't work out.
We got Gerald Green for cheaper. If Green continues on what he did last year, I'm perfectly happy having Green over Mayo.
Think that 11 mil was us?Smith said Mayo turned down one contract this summer that was worth $11 million. He said he also turned down an offer from the Phoenix Suns that was worth between $9 million-$10 million so he could play for the Mavs.
I think more likely it was the Bobcats or some other young team. Or could just be a ploy by his agent saying, "Some team offered him $11 mil and he declined so if he does good this year, the bidding starts there for his next contract." I don't think it will work out that well if that's the truth but you never know.
Didn't think of that. If it was 2 yrs 11mil then yeah I could see us offering him that.
I'm glad OJ is on Dallas. Sick and tired of hearing about this under-achiever
If turner beats out hill and mahinmi in camp then fine, but odds of that happening are slim.
Augustin/Mayo/Green/Power Forward/Mahinmi is one hell of a bench next year, once we go after Mayo part V - The Empire Strikes Back
