Thread: Write Your Own Depth Chart

Default Write Your Own Depth Chart

Letís see your depth charts using only players that we have signed or who were on our summer league team.

    Here is my entry:

    1. Hill Augustin (Stephenson)

    2. George Stephenson Johnson (Hill)/Kramer**

    3. Granger Green (George)

    4. West Plumlee* Pendergraph* Hansbrough*/Mavunga**

    5. Hibbert Mahinmi (Plumlee) (Pendergraph)

( ) indicates that this player has a higher spot in the depth chart at another position

    * This order may change depending on how prepared Plumlee is by the time the season starts and on whether Hansbrough has figured out how to make better contributions to the teamwork concept. I have been rooting for Hansbrough to get it together, but I have tentatively concluded that he might do better with a fresh start on another team if such a team can be found. In the meantime, he should be given opportunity to show improvement. Pendergraph also has to prove his value to the team.

**Kramer and Mavunga are here as placeholders for spots 14 and 15, not necessarily in a certain order. I would like to see them given a chance to make the team. Including them at this point makes us five deep at their positions at least for right now. I figure that will probably change.

    Waterboy: Tyler

    First out: West
    First in: Green

With George and Granger getting at least 36 minutes a night (possibly 40 for George). I love when coaches are smart enough to save their players energy like Popovich does. However, some guys- like George for instance can play all day long and they'll be fine. You're not going to wear George down. So play him. (And Granger is fine playing 36 a night no problem, this won't make him anymore tired before the playoffs)

    Read it and weep:

When George Hill is above 15% usage we won 73.5% of games. Below 15% usage we won 61.9%

    Hill(32), Augustin(24)
    George(30), Green(24)
    Granger(34)
    West(32), Hansbrough(17)
    Hibbert(30), Mahinimi(17)
    -----
    240 minutes

Hill can slide to SG and George/Green can slide to SF.

    Last year they actually averaged...

    Hill(25.5), Augustin(29.3)
    George(29.7), Green(25.2)
    Granger(33.3)
    West(29.2), Hansbrough(21.8)
    Hibbert(29.8), Mahinimi(18.7)
    -----
    242.5 minutes

I would be fine with a 9 man rotation barring foul trouble. Some of the rotations seemed excessive last year imo.

PG: Augustin - Lance - Hill
SG: George - Hill - OJ
    SF: Granger - Green
PF: West - Plumlee - Hansbrough
    C: Hibbert - Mahinmi - Plumlee

That is how I hope it turns out, but I doubt it will. We have no idea how well Plumlee or OJ will be, nor do we know if Lance has progressed to the point of earning a full-time backup role. Hill just isn't a PG as much as I think Lance is a SG he is more of a PG than Hill, and Hansbrough really needs to step it up if he wants to be on any teams long term plans.

Has Pendergraph shown that he can walk and chew gum at the same time? Why would he be ahead of Hansbrough or why would Plumlee for that matter. You must have a very low opinion of Tyler. I think he will go through training camp and have a much better season next year.......

Think Lance needs major minutes at backup PG to show if he's NBA material at the beginning of the season.

    Hill
    George
    Granger
    West
    Hibbert
    6. Lance
    7. Plumlee
    8. Green

Fully expect Hill to get minutes at SG when we go small.

DJ would get Lance's minutes if need be.

    This is really weird.

If you look at the price tags/assets given up for Mahinimi, Green and Augustin, why would Plumlee and Stephenson be ahead of them in the rotation? You also cut Hansbrough out completely after averaging 22mpg.

To each their own but I figured we were aiming for realistic rotations.

hard to say, though. not sure if green can play the 2? I think there is no reason mahini can't play the 4, though.

I hope you are right that Hansbrough will have a better season. If so, he would move up in my depth chart. I like his energy and drive, but it seems that he too often operates as a Lone Ranger (with no Tonto). I have become nearly convinced that he is not a good fit for the style of play that the team is developing, but that view is not set in concrete. I would be happy to be proven wrong.

I don't think we have seen what Pendergraph can do. If we already have seen his best, then he drops down on my depth chart.

Both Hansbrough and Pendergraph are in the last year of their contracts. I doubt we will have both of them, probably not either of them, next year unless they really show something more soon.

Plumlee and Stephenson are basically 1 injury away from receiving major minutes. I personally think they will give Tyler his usual role back for the 1st half of the season; if he is ineffective he will be dumped somewhere or benched.

    To start the year:
    Hill/Augustin/Stephenson
    George/Stephenson/Hill/Green
    Granger/Green/George
    West/Hansbrough/Mahinmi/Pendergraph/Plumlee
    Hibbert/Mahinmi/Plumlee/West

Lance will get the shot (provided nothing changes beyween noe & camp) at the b/u 2, but would not be surprised to see his rotations limited, a bit like l/y, but maybe not as drastic. I think Tyler is the b/u PF starting the season, but he will need to do better thyen l/y because I believe Pendergraph could get a shot (ONLY if he plays better then in SL!) & Plumlee will get some limited min's early on. IMO our b/u PF is our biggest question mark entering the season. If Green continues to grow as a player as he did l/y, & w/ the lack of size on many teams, I would not be surprised to see Danny play more b/u 4 t/y, w/ P.george & Green, esp if Lance plays well. I say this because if Lance is & Green are both playing at a high level, + you want Hill & DJ on the floor, IMO you get your best 5 on the floor as much as you can. So, the #8 off the bench (DJ #6, Green #7) could very well be between Tyler & Lance.
Now, if Barbosa is indeed back, this complicates tghings a bit. I wish we could do a double S&T w/ L.Barbosa & C.Landry. (win-win).
