This, from Jay Kang on Grantland, was frigging hilarious. Maybe our FO wins not by being the smartest but just by not being the most bullheaded: http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/...lundered-again

I really hope it comes back to bite the Knicks in every way possible.

This is a bad move for both sides. Lin will get paid more in his Rockets' contract then he likely would've with the Knicks, but he could've made up a lot of that money in endorsements I'm sure. Likewise, Knicks are going to lose a lot of extra revenue and fanfare.

Lin will still make plenty of endorsements in Houston the 4th biggest market and a China heavy market. I think the Knicks lose out much worse than Lin does money wise.

(I believe Houston is home to the most fortune 500 companies and Lin will have plenty of endorsements and will own China more so than even in NY IMO)

If Mello wouldn't let him lead the team(play point), it would slow his exposure and development. The Rockets have experience dealing with the Chinese market, he doesn't need New York.

According to CBS MSG stock has lost over $100 million dollars the past five days.

But yes Lin wasn't worth 25m

First, you do know that once a company sells stock changes in its value really don't bring any new profit or loss unless the company is planning to issue new shares, right?

Second, making decisions based on the short term rise and fall of your stock is a one-way ticket to failing.

Third, keeping a player no matter how you think he's going to fit simply because he generates revenue sounds a little Donald Sterling-ish to me.

Yes. New York is big. But China and Houston are a lot bigger. So is Texas for that matter. Anyway Jeremy doesn't need New York as much as it needs him. All he needs to do is play like a poor man's Steve Nash and he'll be making money in every city in the world.

But can he? I'd like to see how Lin fares in HOU before passing judgement. I still can't imagine that 2 teams could have missed such talent as he evidently has. If it turns out he wasn't just a flash in the pan, I'll be back here laughing at the stupidity of the Knicks. Not trying to hate on him, but I'd like a larger sample size first.

Agreed actually. I am not at all sure he's not a cheap imitation....and no I'm not playing on his Chinese descent. I hope he succeeds in a huge way in Houston. If he's a bust, he wouldn't make money regardless of location. He'd find himself out of a job. Also, a backup PG from China isn't going to get the same endorsements...so he's going to have to play well...
