Default Orlando Summer League Report: Stock Up (Plumlee/Stephenson) ; Stock Down (O. Johnson)

    http://www.sheridanhoops.com/2012/07...summer-league/

    Stock Up:

Miles Plumlee – The Duke big man was a surprise first-round pick but certainly showed on the court why the Pacers had faith in selecting him over Perry Jones, Arnett Moultrie, and others. Plumlee moved extremely well, was very active around the glass and explosive. Plumlee’s signature performance came against Jared Sullinger and the Celtics when he had 18 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

Lance Stephenson – Stephenson is leading the summer league in scoring and has played very well in Orlando, which is to be expected from a third-year pro. In addition to scoring, Stephenson is averaging over 5 assists a game, which is sure to delight Donnie Walsh and Kevin Pritchard. One Eastern Conference executive said “This is a make or break year for Stephenson in Indiana and the Pacers want to give him every opportunity to succeed.”

    Stock Down:

Orlando Johnson – Johnson’s shot selection looks awful as he is shooting 23% from the field, 20% from 3, and 60% from the FT line. Johnson’s poor summer league was highlighted (lowlighted?) by an 0-for-10 performance from the field against the Thunder earlier this week.
"In 49 states it's just basketball ... but this is Indiana."

I was/am not a fan of the Plumlee pick. I will say that he looked a lot better in the summer league than I ever thought he looked at Duke. Still, a long way to go before anyone can draw any real conclusions. Definitely rooting for him, though.

The great Tyler Hansbrough was 1st team all summer league a few years ago.

Goes to show you how much this means.

Lance and Plumlee looked really comfortable out there. Lance had no trouble dribbling and penetrating. He could get to anywhere on the floor whether he was pressured or not. His post ups where money. I wish they had run more pick and rolls for him but the few they did run were successful. He looked like an NBA PG.

Plumlee moves well and can get up and down the court quicker than most 7 footers. He has a hook shot that is pretty effective and you can tell he's been working on his post moves. He'll get better working with and against Roy in training camp. He's better than the last center they drafted with a late 20's pick - David Harrison.

I agree. I am optimistic that his game is more NBA style than college.

Everyone always says it's just summer league, but I'd rather our guys perform well.

Lance & Plumlee preformed better than several players that were suppose to be better, so at least that's something positive.

From the Pacers-Thunder SL game we already know Plumlee is better than Cole Aldrich...

(then again, Cole Aldrich has to be the worst player with an NBA contract)

I really thought Aldrich could at least end up a sort of Kendrick Perkins lite, strong defender, some garbage buckets. But that dude is just terrible, he doesn't look like he's improved a bit. And he's out of shape.
