When is the winner for Brand found? I'm guessing Scola bidding starts today...

If we actually bid on Brand, I'd think we might have to wait and see if we won before we sign Hibbert and Hill. If we sign them first we'd be over the cap and wouldn't think that we'd be allowed to sign Brand.

I thought you just had to be under when you bid... I really am clueless though. I need to start assuming we won't get Brand or Scola even though that would make our second unit bad***.

But hey... Sometimes dreams do come true.

you must have the space when you win. can't get them if you are over the cap, and can't make trades to get under the cap (after the fact) either.
all you can do when you win is cut some players to make room, if you have non-guaranteed contracts.

They have at least 5 mil left without going over the luxury tax.

@MikeWellsNBA @mg_indy @pacers 1 more thing: Everything I read says we have +/- 5m left, more then enough to bid min offer of 3.5 on Scola.
@SuprCityIndyFan @mg_indy @pacers ok believe what u read. I know they have very little cap space left. It's peanuts n the big picture
Wells says all we have are peanuts, not even 3.5 to bid on Scola or Brand...

Shame we can't ship out Hansborough for a draft pick before bidding closes.

Wells is not a cap guy. He breaks news and has some interesting points sometimes.
I think in this case he probably heard that we are done and the cap is gone, meaning after today's Hill/Hibs signings.
But he turned into "we have no cap now, ok believe what you want, but I know we have peanuts in the big picture".

We have over 5 mil. In a few hours, we will have none, assuming the presser takes place.
"We have cap but not ~5mil, much less" is a wrong answer. Unless we have already (re)signed someone else we don't know about.

That has nothing to do with the luxury tax, that is 70mil, this is just the cap, and until the signings of Hill and Hibbert are sent to the league office we have a little over 5 million to stay within the salary cap.

So, did they not bid for Brand? Is there no money for that? I read somewhere that it will be known about Brand today at 4pm, i'm surprised it hasn't leaked yet. The timing of the press conference and Brand clearing waivers....

I'm sticking with my Brand/Mavs scenario until the bitter end, which is about 3 more hours.

Pacers are at 63 mil after Hibbert and Hill are signed. Thats 5 mil over the cap, you must be under the cap to bid on amnestied players. If no bid is accepted or meets the minimum the player becomes a free agent.

When Brand become bidable , the Pacers had not signed Green or Augustin and were under the cap and eligable to bid.

Brand clears waivers at 4pm, today? Hill and Hibbert are 20 million against the cap? You could acquire Brand via bid at 4:00 and sign H and H at 4:01, that seems legal? Okay, I'll stop now before it becomes annoying...oops too late.

I was going off the fact that Hibbert and Hill are preparing to sign today... There is no doubt we would have space before those 2... Pacers FO knew Scola would be amnestied and called the presser... Wouldn't be the first time that a presser was called off, I just don't think we will bid on Scola tho... (wish we did)

I do like how our presser coincides with the brand amnesty closure period.. Probably coincidence, but maybe not..

Brand became biddable two days ago.
In theory, we could get him if the Hibs/Hill signings are announced AFTER the Brand winner is determined.
Am I correct that both of these things are scheduled at 4 PM?

Yeah like I said, it all depends on when thing get sent to the league office, until they do we have enough money to put in a reasonable offer, for either Brand or Scola.

I believe Brand was amnestied the day-before-yesterday, so the winner should be announced later this afternoon/evening. I think it's usually announced around the time the NBA offices close, so I'm guessing about 6PM.

We've disagreed before, and probably will again... But as you can see, we are right on the same page here... That would be HUGE!!!

Forgot to emphasize one thing, Hibbert and Hill can sign the contract, but if the Pacers want to wait to send it to the league office until Scola bidding is over then we can still make a play for him, and have cap to work with.

There are still many options open if the Pacers choose.

SLICK, seems pretty positive that you have to have the cap space available at the conclusion of the bidding process... therefore if Hill and hibbs sign today, scola is a nonfactor...
