You don't want Scola playing center, believe me. For defensive, and rebounding issues.

You put him at 4 and that's it. I'd rather have West playing center, and that's saying something.

(besides, we have 2 backup Cs right now, let'em have it)

Well, if that's true (and I accept that it is), then are we going to split the 48 minutes at the PF position between two starter-quality guys next year? I don't think either is quick enough to play SF. Scola's a good player, but is he a good fit for this team? I don't know.

The door to make a trade is never shut, but don't be surprised if the Pacers r done making moves. They accomplished what they wanted.

Wonder if the timing put us in a bind. Maybe the front office wants to put in a bid and wait but Roy's and Hill's agents just said screw that, we've waited long enough.

Or the front office just doesn't want to bid.

Well, I'll say first that I don't think we'll get Scola.

But if we did, we'd probably do the same thing we did this past season: sub in Scola for West at the 6 min mark, sub in Mahinmi for Roy late in the first quarter, then West for Mahinmi midway through the second (having him play some center), and finally Roy in for Scola.

We'd hide Scola's defensive deficiencies always playing him at the 4 (beware, he's not a good defender even there), and have a more stout presence in the middle when Roy is out with Mahinmi and West for a couple minutes. Considering our two PFs wouldn't be the youngest guys, sharing minutes would keep them fresher; in the playoffs then you hand more minutes to who's having the best game.

At least that's what I'd do, in case we signed Luis (and obviously ship Tyler somewhere else)

Didn't he also say yesterday that a deal for Augustin was unlikely? I would take what he has to say with a HUGE grain of salt

I like both West and Scola, but I'd rather have West than Scola if it were a decision to be made in the future.

They are prolly done, but if they do put bids in for Brand or Scola, it would be silent. Why would the FO want other teams to know they put a bid in. Walsh would let everyone think he didn't while he is submitting the bid. I think there would be a better chance if they could have dealt Hans and got rid of the 3mil..

He retweeted the Charlotte beat guy that a sign and trade was unlikely. Which was obviously true.

Not sure if this has been posted, I'm to lazy to check at the moment.

Eric Pincus: Just got off with @LarryCoon who clarifies - it's $10 mil total min bid over the 3 years - so a $3.36 bid roughly per year for Scola valid

We have almost no scoring punch off the bench in our front court and our starters play less then most starters.
Scola would fill a need for us and make Hans expendable for a future trade.
Gaining this cap space was a long time coming and it won't be here again for many years. They need to use to while they can to improve the team and Scola would do that. He would be the best signing of what I consider a disapointing free agency.
Having said that, I don't expect it to happen.

Hans has no value, just like D. Jones had no value even as expirings. The Pacers would be lucky to get a 2nd round pick from somebody.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

Lets put it this way...The front office would almost have to be idiots to not put in some sort of bid if they have the capspace to do so...that goes for just about any front office that has the capspace.

Now, theyre certainly not going to tell anyone they are doing so. In fact they would much prefer for competitive reasons that other teams think they may not-not unlike the situation with Hibberts deal where there are some benefits to posturing etc...Also, you manage expectations of fans if you have them thinking that most all the moves are done, because even if they bid theres no certainty they win, and when that happens and fans had the expectation you were bidding-well then you didnt bid enough and the fans are all p'oed again. But if they happen to win, then they underpromised and overdelivered.

Again, this is pretty basic stuff. With Brand, you can almost rest assured they have a bid in. Whether its big enough, who knows. If they happen to win, then its not so likely they bid on Scola. If they dont, then they might have to think a little bit about whether they bid on Scola....but not long. Its just the right thing to do to make a bid, even if its the minimum just to keep him from becoming an UFA and going to Miami, New York, Boston, Chicago or LA.

DW always also had a rep of being close to the vest about pending deals, this didn't start with Bird.

Mike's in a tough spot because DW and Pritch wouldn't want to say anything, and at this point they might not have even considered it and could have gone into "let's go looking" mode because of the surprise.

Because if they don't think that $4m a year for Scola is a homerun game changer then they are nuts. That dude is a bigger, craftier scoring machine than West (not in size bigger, but as in more). Losing the bid, okay, but you've got to go in and be competitive on a deal like this.

Scola is a great player. He is pretty much the definition of the finesse PF. He can shoot, he can pass and he has a vast array of finesse power moves. Mind you, he is nothing close to a stretch 4. He doesn't extend to the 3 point line. Only to the top of the key. He is even more ground bound than David West. You won't see him performing any power moves but he'll get you points.

I'd like him. We would have a great post option in our second unit if we were to get him.

The thing is that we will never know if we put a bid on Scola or Brand unless we win one of them.

CP3 seems like science fiction. But Harden, Josh Smith, etc. There are some really nice players.
Oh God. A frontcourt of Howard and Smith would be disgustingly hard to score on.
