Honestly i'm happy with what we've done so far and won't get upset if it doesn't happen. This would just be one of those cherry on top of the icing on the cake type moves for me it'd be a nice added little bonus to the way things have gone so far
to me, this would be going from a B- offseason to A+.
There's an improvement level that I realistically didn't expect us to get to a month ago. Things like trading into lottery, or adding Nash or Dragic, or Gordon, etc. Different levels of "not realistic", but overall, I considered any of them outside shots.
Rebuilding the bench completely and adding an elite scoring big like Scola would be one of those things.
If it happens, it would be an absolutely brilliant piece of management work.
(If not, the Dallas giveaway would be one blemish on the offseason. A waste of assets, if we aren't using that extra cap.)

I would love Scola, but I doubt we get him or Brand. Hopefully Ian can fill the role they would anyway.

I dont think the pacers will get scola, but brand is possible of the mavs bid on scola.

If it's a secret bid, how do you know which player the Mavs are bidding on?

I understand Brand's bid end's at 5 PM tomorrow. IOW, the Pacers don't want wait to bid on Scola only to find out the Mavs are too thus missing out on bidding on Brand when the Mavs didn't.

I feel the same way, I think that adding Scola to the second unit could make us contenders, I like what we have done so far but I don't think we are closer to be contenders, Scola scoring and creating ability could make our second unit probably the best second unit in the NBA.

So how much we have to bid on Scola? 5mil max?

Can we cut Pendergrah to have more money?

Pendergraph's contract is guaranteed. Thanks to Bird giving an injured Pendergraph a 3 year guaranteed contract thru 13-14.

2 years, he's an expirer. There's not a chance in hell they give him that 1.8 mil QO. And I fully believe that was all Prichard. Not that it matters.

Lol...oh the irony. Maybe we should revisit the guaranteed contracts that Donnie left Bird with.

Didn't read the whole thread, but it seems we may be outsmarting ourselves. Scola's contract for next season is only $9 and a half million. Instead of chancing the amnesty draft, why not just make an offer. A future 2nd has to be better than paying out the 20 or 30 million the amnesty costs.

Each teams bid on each player separately. ie Dallas makes 2 bids one for brand and one for scola. so does everyone else.

how much cap space do we have. is it close. trade them a player or 2. hansbrough or pendegraph. paying them a couple million is better than paying the 20 or 30 the amnesty costs.

apparently somewhere between 4 and 4.5 million.

and no it's not better, not when you're trying to do what they are. kstat's gone over why in this thread previously.

When Hibbert and Hill are signed officially the Pacers will be at least 5 million dollars over the cap. With those 2 signed , Green , Augustine, Mahinmi , Plumlee and Johnson signed also the Pacers will be at a little over 63 million in salary.

If Scola really gets amnestied, we have to get in on the bidding. Delay Hibbert and Hill's signings; they've waited this long, what's a couple more days?

Regarding trade instead of amnesty - if an under the cap team really was willing to take Scola's whole salary, then Houston would definitely choose to trade rather than amnesty. The fact that they're going the amnesty must mean they've found no takers.

Agree with ballism and vnzla81, getting Scola for free would be a huge bonus. This is exactly the kind of thing we've been saving cap space for.

Sure. Simon would like nothing more than to make us PD people happy. He doesn't care at all how much he has already lost.

Shamsports disagrees. They show it as 3 years.
The 3rd year's a qualifying offer. That's not a guaranteed year at all nor is it part of the contract.

You are right the 3rd year is a QO. I remember when JP was signed it was reported as a 2 yr contract, but I looked at Shamsports seeing there was 2 more years not realizing the 3rd year was a QO.

I didn't think the Pacers would get Green, so I'll hold at hope they bid and get Scola.

If we get Scola, we are darn good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. We have the pieces and this could be "the" piece we need. This guy fits us so well, on so many different levels. We sign him, I'm buying season tickets...

This chaos of this offseason forced me to make an account. But when it comes to Brand or Scola the only way I think we could win the bidding for one of them would be if we ship out hansborough for a pick. Which I would support. I like Hansborough, but he just aint getting it done. And frankly he regressed to much last year for my liking.

We have enough young guys with upside on our bench, we need a veteran who while they might not get better, they are a known quantity.

We aren't getting Scola. The starting bid is a Min. of 10 mil due to an issue in amnesty claim.

    THIS.

Makes Brendan Haywood look appealing, I guess. Is Brand's contract fully guaranteed? If so, I guess a minimum bid for him is also $1.35 million.
