Chances are slim that we will get Brand or Scola, but I still think that free agency this year was huge for us.

Pritchard just said on the radio show that we don't have money to get either Scola or Brand so that dream is dead.

We had the money they just didnt use it. Have Hibbert/Hill wait to sign Sunday at 6pm and we are looking at having Scola and a legitimate chance to get to the ECF.

How the do you know that? They don't release year by year details of the contracts. What if we front loaded Roy (or any of our other signings) to give ourselves more breathing room from the lux tax down the road (do have West to re-sign, and eventually PG)... if that was the case in any way, timing didn't matter.

No one completely knows if we had the space unless you have the official Pacers contract ledger in front of you. Our FO knows what we could have or not have done better than any fan.

dont sign Roy and Hill until the 19th and we had 4.5m maybe even a little more. Teams like us in a small market need to take advantage at getting a great PF at a cheap price. It was very do-able we should of at least waited and bid the most we could.

Again, if we front loaded any player we would have less than the 4.5... contracts aren't all created the same. Houston has proved that with their offers to Lin and Asik.

WAITING TO SIGN HILL AND HIBBERT

ok did you read the first part??

If you did if we waited Roy's cap hold was 6 and change and Hill's was almost 4. There is no changing a cap hold until they sign. We had about 4.5m in cap room we should of bid.

Wont the Pacers have around $10mil in cap space next year with DJ, Pendergraph, Hans and West coming off the books?

Pritchard explained this on 1070 the fan, he said that we weren't able to put a bid because of timing, stop with the overreaction if you don't know what pacers4ever is talking about.

LT is scheduled to be at 70m this season we are at 63m after resigning Hill and Hibbert adding Scola and we would of still had a few million to play with. LT wasn't an issue in this decision even if it was........

paying a few million in LT to win next year is worth it. The tax is still only 1+1 until next off season.

If you want to win you have to pay. I could understanding not paying the tax if the move doesnt make us a lot better but you should be willing to pay the tax for a year or say if it makes your team a lot better.

It's hard to tell Roy and Hill to wait if they and their representatives feel like they've waited long enough. Maybe they felt that way, maybe not, there's no way for anyone to know.

Pritch also said we had to do the S&T the way we did due to salary restrictions. There is something # wise won't don't know about as fans.

That's all I am saying, as fans we don't know the full picture, only the FO does.

Well its not just paying the luxury tax, but also the fact that going over the luxury makes the team lose out on millions they would potentially receive from other teams that are over the tax line.

Man, I know they had stuff lined up with George and Roy, but surely they could have made the pitch to them that they wanted to hold on.

Or maybe what they "signed" at the presser was their Dunkin Donuts orders and the real contracts get signed Monday after the Pacers win the Scola bid.

I get the timing is tough and I get that Simon doesn't want to spend crazy, but Scola for this money would be a massive win for the team and make them a real force, while still having plenty of outs come next season if things go wrong. To me this one is a miss by Pritch and DW. West followed by Scola means non-stop frontline scoring being defended by Bosh, Haslem and Joel Anthony maybe.

The difference between frontloading and backloading in that situation is ~800k (combined). It's not a game changer.

4.5 mil was pretty much the conservative number already.
Depending on how the deals were structured, it could've been closer to 5.5 mil.

    for 2.1m what a steal

What a joke we would of been fine to get Scola for 3.3m and still not pay near the tax.
yeah, that one doesn't make much sense. The Brand bidding started before the presser was scheduled and we certainly had 2.1 mil to spend. At least I thought, maybe they really did frontload Hill or something. Which in a vacuum would make me happy I guess.

    Oh well, moving on.

Brand for $2.1, Scola for $3.4 or Mahinmi for $4.0, you go with Mahinmi 10 times out of 10. And you give up Dahntay and DC because, hey, they're not part of our future and because Mahinmi is their value.

I like the restructuring of the bench, but I think this summer has been a solid D- to F. We're near the luxury tax and whether or not we're better is arguable. We should be clearly better with the price we paid.

David Aldridge was saying Scola may go unclaimed he said there wasn't much interest among teams under the cap(most of them our rebuilding )
