Because Hill should be playing at the 2.
    So you're benching Paul George?

This is making no sense what you guys are saying. I'd get it if you meant Hill should come off the bench to play the 1/2 but the one dude said Augustin and Hill would be the starting back court.

And what should Collison be playing in this league? Because George Hill stole his starting job.

Am I missing something? Why would that be the starting back court?
In response to those that think Augustine is going to earn the starting PG spot or those that think he's a "truer" PG than Hill, they may be right. But I'd still want Hill in the starting lineup because he's our best overall guard on the roster. I don't care which position Hill starts at, I just want him on the court.

Are you worried that I left off Paul George? I'm not, but you can move him to forward if that's your concern and if you think he should start ahead of Granger. I'd rather increase his minutes and role as the sixth man. For long stretches of last season, he was still the weak link in the starting lineup and I thought Hill was about to become the starting SG until Collison got hurt. And I still think Paul George has potential and he'll reach it even faster when he spends more time at SF.

In the playoffs, you can cover 1-2-3 with four guys @ 36 mpg since Hill can play both guard spots and George can play both wing spots.

Augustine - 36 mins at PG
Hill - 24 at SG, 12 at PG
George - 24 minutes at SG, 12 minutes at SF
Granger - 36 minutes at SF.

Again, that's if you think Augustine is going to win the PG spot.

Yet he averaged more assists with that horrific team than any Pacer did. Hmmmm
DC avg 6 assists with NO. Oftentimes a product of the system. When a PG dominates the ball in a possession it winds up a shot, assist, or turnover. Our O isn't PG dominant.

Collison got hurt, and Hill played well enough to keep the job. Personally I don't care who starts between the Georges, both are going to get significant playing time.

Oh.... well then I guess we're just on different pages because if Augustin starts, I would have Hill come off the bench. I wouldn't start the only two point guards on the roster.

But if you start both Augustin and Hill, it feels like they'd both have to come off the floor together at some point. We should always have one of them at the point imo. Unless you trust Lance...

Augustin shot often b/c who else could score besides him and Henderson?

I've been to more Bobcats games then I would care to admit. Probably 80 or so over the 4 year career of DJ Augustin. Augustin shoots because he has confidence in his shot. Trying to use last year's bad team to explain everything about DJ Augustin's game is just **** poor logic on your part. He shoots because he has always been a confident scorer, and this dates back to high school before Katrina displaced his whole family (yup I've followed his career a long time.) I've personally seem him take numerous clutch shot attempts in games, even when he had guys like Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace around him. The kid just has a lot of confidence in his shot. Whether he's on the worst team in the league or a playoff bound team like he was a couple seasons ago, he's going to keep shooting. He believes in his shot, he believes in his game, and he believes he should be a starter in the NBA. I'm positive he'll have that same attitude in Indiana.
<---- Hansbrough smiling in the training room after Gerald Henderson's cheap shot. UNC won the game, Tyler was happy so he took this picture. Roy Williams keeps it on his desk.

My problem with this is where will Gerald Green get his minutes? And thats one very very small starting back court

guess we will pay him the MLE if he has a great year? Why didn't we give him a 2 year deal or at least a 1+1 so we could at least have early bird rights.

Next year we arent gonna be able to do much to add on. Resigning DJ would use our main exception.

Love getting DJ one of my favorite offensive pgs but we needed to get his Bird rights(wish we could of S&T Stanko or what not just to get his bird rights).
It appears the FO doesn't share your enthusiasm for DJ. To me this looks like a short term solution. IF Lance is ready to play, then DJ goes to the bench. If not, the Pacers will be looking for a new backup PG next summer.

Folks, I don't know why this guy is saying Hill would play two guard, but you shouldn't pay any attention to it. It's not happening. Hill has been designated a point on this team. If he loses the starting job to Augustin, then he'll play backup.

Green is going to get a lot of minutes this year off the bench as the 6th man. He should play more minutes than any other bench player. He's a legit wing who can play 2 or 3 and he is easily the best scorer off the bench.
Find me on the internets @mattiecolin

    Read it and weep:

When George Hill is above 15% usage we won 73.5% of games. Below 15% usage we won 61.9%

Only 1 year? Great, it will take everyone that long to learn that there's not an E on the end of his name.

Seriously, love the pickup. I'm a big DC fan, but I know that we weren't going to re-sign him anyway.

I think you need to lower your expectations for Green. Lance is a better player, and will get more minutes than Gerald

Going around other random general NBA message boards I see the "good team = all good players, bad team = all bad players" fallacy is still in full effect.

Okay. Has he signed yet? I thought that was iffy. I'm just showing that you can shorten your rotation in the playoffs with those four. You wouldn't play that way in January. You'd have one more guy in there - presumably Green - for about 20 minutes a game and each of those four players would drop back to about 31 mpg. But you also wouldn't be taking minutes from those four for Gerald Green in the playoffs unless there was foul trouble or an injury.

Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

That's where Frank Vogel comes in. Not to mention West/Hibbs/Danny. I don't think it will be an issue.

I am fine with this 9 man rotation based on a 34 minute base:

Hill - 26 min at PG, 8 at SG
Augustin - 22 mins at PG
George - 24 minutes at SG, 10 minutes at SF
Granger - 34 minutes at SF
Green - 16 min at SG, 4 min at SF
    West- 34 min at PF
    Hibbert- 34 min at C
    Hans- 14 min at PF
    Mahinmi- 14 min at C

One can argue dumping Hans altogether, bumping Granger to PF for 14 min, and using George more at SF while playing Lance 14 min at SG

I am not seeing others (Plumlee) getting PT as a rookie

By that logic, the whole notion that Augustin is going to start over Hill is a nonstarter, since Hill is already the starter and making 4x the salary with a multyear contract, so you probably shouldn't pay any attention to that either. It wasn't the most reasonable premise to begin with. Hill is the highest paid and best overall guard on the roster, and played both G positions last season. I would not think for a moment that a future move to promote Augustin to the starting lineup would correspond to a future demotion for Hill.

Right. Once Hill was promoted, our second unit had awful chemistry (and interestingly, the chemistry on the first unit improved with Hill) and no offense (and not much defense, either).

The bench may have been deep in that a lot of guys played, but it was weak in that a lot of guys that played barely made any contributions.
