OK so after all the trades the Pacers made yesterday it looks like we still need a backup point guard, a big SF defender to guard Lebron, a shot creator and a PF/C that can play D, list a name of player that we can get? and is there another position you think we need to improve?

    vnzla,

I know you agree with me here. I think Jose Calderon is a guy who is realistic that would help us out quite a bit. I like him better than Watson or Augustin.

Did I miss any other trades? I thought we just made one trade yesterday...

Win Brand, trade Hans for Augustin... Go to ECF... That's it, that's the list...

Me too but I don't know if the Pacers are willing to take into his 8mil salary.

Well the first thing we need to do is be sure we sign Green, and then we either need to complete this Augustin deal or try to make something similar happen, we need a backup PG.

It's even worse than that. Calderon makes 10.56 million this year. The Pacers would likely have to send Hansbrough to even have enough cap room to absorb Calderon's contract (assuming they sign Green), and that move would be the end of their cap room.

If we don't get Augustin I think we should go after Watson, we also need a defender that can help against Bosh, Griffin and those type of guys, Jared Jeffries could be cheap, bring Barbosa back as our shot creator(another cheap option) and we also need a guy that can help against Lebron.

Yay, Vnzla - I agree! ... although I'd put more of a premium on a back-up big who can score:

Projecting that Dallas will bid high for Brand, Option 1 is to land Scola if indeed he is amnestied within the next few days. In either case, we'll need to be frugal in signing a back-up PG. (It'd be more fun to see Lance win that role anyway.) Clearly the most cost-effective option, even beyond next season.

To carry the baton for PacerGod2's idea, Option 2 is to trade Hans (if he's not traded for Augustin) & next year's pic to Utah for Paul Milsap, who has just one year left on his contract ($8.6M on Shamsports, $7.2M on Hoopshype) and clearly doesn't have a future there. No one can truly guard LeBron, but I'd like to have Milsap's muscle on him for short periods of time.

    Option 3 ... suggestions?

Yep, at this moment, back up PG is the #1 priority after losing DC.

Isn't Green big enough and athletic enough to guard Lebron about as well as Danny did? I would hope that Danny, Gerald, Paul, and George Hill are collectively the defenders of Lebron and Wade, as it stands now.

I suspect that if we strike out on Augustin, our final PG will be a low-end cheap option such as John Lucas III or his equivalent.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

My first thought on Green was he was a small forward who could play some 2, so I agree.

Who do you have in mind as a guy that could help against Lebron? Those don't exactly grow on trees.

I'm not sure how much you've watched Green, but he is capable of generating his own offense. He's not a guy that you want dribbling throughout the shot clock, but give him 3-4 dribbles and he normally has a good shot available to him.

We could use one more veteran on the wing. NOBODY can guard Lebron, but having someone that can help slow down D-Wade would be ideal. So If you want an athletic, more defensive minded wing player, you can get a Ronnie Brewer or maybe a Shannon Brown or Delonte West.

Or if you want a knock down 3-pt shooter to space the floor you could go after a Delfino (urg), Belinelli, or even Korver.

I also think that Mahinmi can be the versatile pf/c that we need also. If we want to pick up another guy on the cheap, then we can always pick up a guy like Jeffries, which you mentioned. If we SOMEHOW picked up Brand or Scola from the Amnesty wire or picked up Landry to be the primary backup 4, then I think our frontcourt is even more improved, but that seems like it would be a luxury at this point.

The backup PG spot is key here. I'm hopeful we get someone who is more of a distributor with a good outside shot. If we can pick-up Augustin, I'm all for it. If not, then it looks like we're choosing between CJ Watson, Ray Felton,

All in all. I see the Pacers attempting to pick up Landry/Scola/Brand but ultimately failing. Signing someone like Barbosa or Delfino, and then either striking the deal with Augustin, or picking up CJ Watson (who always seemed to kill DC everytime we played the Bulls)

Here is a list of cheap options that we can get to guard Lebron:

Pietrus: I wanted him last year, he did a good job on Lebron in the ECF but at the same time he was really frustrating to watch, good player for the money.

DeShawn Stevenson: He is crazy but he can guard anybody.

Marquis Daniels: He also did a pretty good job against Lebron in the ECF.

Barnes: I always liked him but he is not strong enough to guard Lebron.

Andres Nocioni: This guys used to be really good, could be a decent cheap pickup.

Ivan Johnson: He is a defensive beast, I don't know if he is quick enough to guard Lebron.

Ronnie Brewer: I forgot about him, good athletic defender.

I still wouldn't mind getting Mayo, which I know is very unlikely at this point. I think Mahinmi can be the guy to guard guys like Griffin and Bosh as mentioned before. Augustin, Mayo, and Green in the bench back-court would be really nice...

This would be a pipe-dream, and we truly would be one of if not the deepest team in the league. Unfortunately, I think Mayo is gonna go to either Pho (if N.O matches EJ) or Dallas. Mayo wants to start, and wants to get paid. I know the Mavs can't pay much, but they always find a way to make something work.

Brandon Rush or Dahntay Jones are probably the best we would have had coming off the bench.

    Oops.

I hope the backup PG spot is turned over to Lance Stephenson. Kind of wish they would have kept AJ Price for insurance though.

I would love to trade for Marion but I don't think we have the pieces to match his salary, he is the closest I've seen somebody to stop Lebron.
