After losing his starting job and then watching Hill get the contract that he got, how does anyone know that DC didn't quietly ask for a trade? Maybe the FO made the best out of a bad situation. Some people on here don't want to give anyone a chance....come on! Halfway through last season, all you heard were the Travis Best comparisons. Do you guys remember that DC isn't much of a passer; especially on the break? I don't know how many times he missed wide open wings on the fast break, only to pull up and jack his own shot. Yeah, I agree, he had some decent play in the playoffs, but so did Hill. I remember that in the 1st Round, our starting 5 was the best 5 on the court out of all teams. Most people freaked on the DD for unknown bench player JO too. Let's give the new guys a chance, Geez. Perhaps we won't lose every freaking lead if we build a strong bench.

paying 4M a year for a backup big who can give you 5/5 or so in 15~20 minutes is not a bad contract by any means. i'm quite happy with this.

One thing that nobody has mention is that Dallas starting unit is going to suck on D next year, DC, DJ, Marion, Dirk, Kaman? damn they are going to suck on D.

He worked on his mid-range touch and became relatively consistent in spotting up from about 15 feet.
I like this part as well. If he can do that when he is with West or Roy down low that would be nice.

ideally this is what should be happening.

although i am sad to see both DC and dahntay go, i am excited to see what mahinmi and green will bring to the table.

last season we had one center. now we have 3. i am pleased.
That's exactly what I'm saying. Word to word

I'll say this for the front office - they're willing to make bold moves and take the subsequent flak from the fans. Whether these moves will pay off for this team remains to be seen, but you have to give them credit for taking those chances.

Could be. To be honest, I'm glad that DC is getting a starting job in a good team. He deserves it

Mahinmi is a decent backup Center. He averaged 7 points and 4.5 rebounds in the playoffs this year. In the few times I've seen him play, I noticed that he doesn't block shots and he's not very good defensively. That's the only disappointing thing about this trade to me.

Or that Walsh knew DC really wanted to start and that there was no way he would get the chance here. One of the Donnie Tropes is that he really does try to find the best situation for a player - its the reason why the (sane) players loved him as a GM.

I absolutely do. You honestly think this was a fair trade? The skills of Mahinmi equate to Jones and DC? The only way this makes sense is: to dump some salary and have someone else in mind.

    Mavs fan here.

First let me address why Mavs fans celebrate this trade and treat Darren Collison like the 2nd coming of Jesus. With the off-season the Mavs had until yesterday we would have celebrated a trade for a dead rat. Our starting PG was probably Dominique Jones and our best guard Delonte West (assuming we re-sign him). The Mavs were unlikely to retain the services of Mahinmi as he was apparently chased by a few teams, so obviously we were happy to get something for Mahinmi. That doesn´t say much about Mahinmi itself.

Am I reading this correctly? He averages 4 points and like 1 assist a game.....
we didnt sign him for offense. We needed defense and that is just what we got. However he does have a few offensive moves and knows his limitations.

I am just happy to have a few bigs who will pound the ball through the rim, as opposed to the BS flip it over your shoulder 2 feet from the rim shot.

OK, but you always pay more to get a big guy. Skills for the big guy you trade will never equate to the skills for the smaller players you trade.

According to Wells this moves were made by Walsh and Pritchard, but he pointed out that Pritchard is the one on the phone all the time talking to other teams about deals.

In fairness it had to be Pritchard by the time the trade went down it was long past Donnie's bed time

That makes sense, but remember Walsh said in the press conference that the final decision is his. If for some reason Pritch and Donnie cannot agree, than Donnie makes the final decision. So Walsh must have agreed with these moves.

Oh no, you opened that can of worms. Well, now that you've gone there I'll just say these feel like Donnie moves to me. And in fairness to Donnie, he does have a fair record sussing out buried talent. Here's hoping Mahinmi turns out to be another underrated gem.

I haven't seen any San Antonio TPTB worshipers point out that Ian Mahinmi was drafted by the Spurs (#28 in 2005) ... so he must be destined for greatness.

I like Ian mahinmi. He's better than people realize. He's quietly raised his profile from. Garbage time player to a contributor.

I think collison has severely hurt his stock value since the pacers acquired him. This was about the type of trade I expected.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

I agree, all I'm saying is that Pritchard is doing what he does best in making trades and staying aggressive, it looks to me like he brings the ideas to Walsh and as you said he makes the final decision.
