Portland fans have a great sense of humor. They were deciding if this name should stick 'The Big Mediocre' or 'The Big Average'..... Well Roy, welcome back home where 92% of the fans love ya.
    Damn, Blazers fans are salty.

So, how many Roy trade threads do you think the panic rumor mill will start now?

Me - Boy, that escalated quickly... I mean, that really got out of hand fast.
BillBradley - It jumped up a notch.
Me - It did, didn't it?
Wintermute - Yeah, I stabbed a man in the heart.
Me - I saw that. Wintermute killed a guy. Did you throw a trident?
Wintermute - Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident.
Me- Wintermute, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself another user name or hide out over at RealGM. Lay low for a while, because you're probably wanted for murder.

    Ric Bucher, ESPN

The Portland Trail Blazers, convinced the Indiana Pacers will match their offer sheet of 4 years and $58 million to restricted free-agent center Roy Hibbert, will not officially complete the transaction and thereby allow Hibbert to re-sign outright, league sources said Tuesday.

The move is beneficial for the Blazers. If Hibbert did sign the offer sheet, the Pacers would have three days to match.

During those three days, the Blazers would have Hibbert's first-year salary in the deal removed from the cap space they have available to pursue other free agents.

The Pacers drafted Hibbert with the 17th overall pick in 2008 and the Georgetown product has seen his scoring and rebounding averages rise every season, reaching a career-high 12.8 points and 8.8 rebounds in the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season.

With Hibbert anchoring their frontcourt, the Pacers were 42-24 this year and lost to the Miami Heat in six games in the second round of the playoffs.

Something that gets lost in the discussion: Roy is actually losing something by not accepting Portland's offer sheet. First, Portland's offer contains a significant upfront payment, while the Pacers' offer likely will not. As anyone who understands the time value of money knows, getting a few millions 4 years early isn't anything to sneeze at. Secondly, as a matched RFA, Roy would effectively gain a no-trade clause for one year (can't be traded without his consent). He's giving that up too by signing the Pacers' offer instead.
    .
Roy knows that he has to live here and needs the FO and fans support. He gets his money and loses some interest but gets to keep his good guy image. The last thing a player that perhaps doesn't deserve max needs is to demonstrate he wants to squeeze out every last dollar.

I just hope it's still 4.5% raises instead of 7.5%

7.5% raises wouldn't be the same terms. Unless you doubt the reports that the terms will be the same, I don't see any reason to worry about the size of the raises.

    Suppose that's true, if it's an extra 3% that's not 4/58, it's 4/65 or whatever

So if Portland did in fact withdraw their offer like it's being reported, even though it would be severely bad form on our part doesn't that mean we can then offer Hibbert whatever the hell we feel like?

If that were to happen Hibbert could still reject our offer and sign with another team, plus no one would ever wanted to get drafted by or negotiate with Indiana ever again. Plus it would be a terrible thing to do to Hibbert and so tacky that it would turn away fans.

Ok Pritch lets go after Wilson Chandler in a trade, or sign Gerald Green.

The only way David falk agrees to not sign portlands offer is if he already has the same contract offer from Indiana in his hands. He isn't going to screw over his own client.

It was a mutual decision by the three parties involved. Nobody screwed anybody.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

Does this mean that we will have longer to sign other FAs since we don't have to match anything within 3 days?

Yes Don, technically we could... (and couldnt) Hes still restricted and could sign another max deal with someone else, and severely poison pilled... But that would be the poorest form in the history of the NBA... Worse than Boozers exodus... Worse than the Malloofs stadium handshake agreement... Fall has apparently lost all credibility, per kstat... and this would make him look like the good guy... obviously, Roy is going to sign an altered deal that is Pacer friendly... We would be foolish to play with that fire...

I'm thinking we will play the role of bargain hunters over the next week or 2...

Its been reported that money is drying up across the NBA, and nobody has made much in the way of roster moves as of yet. Amnesties etc. I would expect us to wait atleast a week or so to complete our off-season...

And don't think that Lances play in SL won't play a part... Hes looking like Rondo with a scoring touch... Slowly making DC irrelevant...

UNLESS A BARGAIN OJ DEAL FALLS IN OUR LAP, I think we'll wait and see.

Psyren, I understand your frustration... We really have a lot of options remaining, not named OJ or in the Free Agent Pool... If Lance finishes SL strong, and we pick up Brand for cheap, we could package DC an Tyler and First for a nice Nice Player...

I did say looking like... and, SLOWLY making DC irrelevant... Lance, has always been erratic and too flashy. He has been in complete control and confident the last 2 days; and against Jackson, who is a legit backup guard.

    Optimistic..
