Trading a 1st rd pick for Marshon Brooks sounds great! Now that they have paid elite money to 2 mediocre players (Roy/DG), there probably is not enough money to go and get someone who can take over a game.
Bittersweet about the signing. Glad to have Roy back but sad the Pacers will not contend for a title.
In see you complaining about this in various posts, so I feel the need to ask, What is your master plan?

Because Im simply brighter, more knowledgeable and more experienced than you. So message board or life, it will almost always play out that way........ Which is exactly what you and Kstat did to a number of us. Nothing worse than an internet know-it-all that doesnt know it all.
Hubris and unintended (I assume) irony on full display.

FWIW, I still see nothing wrong with what Kstat said, and I am far from one who agrees with Kstat (ever).

EDIT: I feel like that qualifier was stupid, but I will leave it..

An agent only has his word to go on. If Roy said "screw it, I am going going to go sign a 2 year deal with Indiana and leave Portland waiting for me at the airpor" Faulk and his team would take a major credibility hit.

Of course, the more this plays out the more it seems this was orchestrated long ago (or at least talked about IMO) and all parties signed off on it, mostly because it just made too much sense not to.

There were several people here who were vehement that the idea of Hibbert not signing Portland's offer sheet -- for any reason -- was simply unthinkable. Once there's a verbal agreement, it's as good as written in stone, so say these people.

Those people were wrong. Why they can't be big boys and just admit it, I don't know.

why is it so important that someone one is right or wrong? what does it matter? Do you win a prize?

That's right! It would be in Roy's and the Pacers best interest to not sign it. He already knows the Pacers will match so he might as well try to negotiate the best deal he can with the Pacers. There is nothing un-ethical about him not signing it once he knows the Pacers will match. REally, he would only be wasting his time.

Perhaps I am misreading the situation (wouldn't be the first time) but I thought Roy was signing the same contract.

If that is the case, wouldn't the end result really be Roy giving the Pacers a break (by giving them more time to operate without his cap hit)

This is great news, imo, even if Roy's overpaid. I'm very happy he'll be back with the Pacers. It sets a very good precedent that we'll reward players who work hard and contribute to the city.

I'm very glad to be wrong on this one. I thought the writing was on the wall about our spending. It still may be to an extent, but I didn't think we'd keep Roy.
I'm with you overall on this... but I actually really am glad that the FO treated this negotiation seriously, and didn't just rubber stamp it. Seems like a lot of folks here had forgotten their sentiments about his value once they realized there was a chance we might lose him. But let's be honest: he's not a clearly dominant player yet. He's not yet advanced his game to the place where he takes over a game, as he's still got some stuff to work on between his ears.

The fact that the FO saw it as a more difficult decision implies that the folks behind the scenes are going to avoid many of the totally nonsense contracts being given out, which bodes well for our ability to stay highly competitive in a tightening cap environment. They were valuing him properly, but chose to suck it up and pull the trigger, which in the end seems like the right choice, as he's not getting massively overpaid.

I also thought that the FO was consistent and deliberate about publicly acknowledging that they were going to prioritize bringing Hibbs back.

In all seriousness, my issue isn't that they were wrong, but that they were somewhat obnoxious and arrogant in their, shall we say, "misplaced certainty."

I see Pacers brass running in the airport running down Roy, saying we love you, please come back to us. It's like a hollywood film in the making.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

I thought that meant they caught him in the Indy airport before he left for Portland.

Yes, they are usually not wrong while being arrogant but in all honesty it came off that way and I have nothing against either one of them. There was a 1% chance that he didn't sign the offer sheet and it actually happened, even if it was basically a technicality. You guys made other people seem like idiots trying to argue that it was impossible. Either way it doesn't matter now.

The real problem in general is when people make bold claims about how their opinion is right and everyone else is just dumb for thinking anything else. Like on how to draft, build a team, sign FAs, etc. The truth is there are many ways that could work and it really bugs me when people think everything is so easy and clear-cut. It isn't about forcing your opinion down other people's throats, it is about arguing/explaining your view and then hopefully learning something while listening to others' opinions.

But this is the internetz so people are bound to make as many bold claims and get as pissed off as they please about everything that happens haha

Yeah, Wells said on 1070 that Roy turned around before getting on the plane to go to Portland. He was in Washington.
"We've got to be very clear about this. We don't want our players hanging around with murderers," said Larry Bird, Pacers president.
