    Default Thank you Larry Bird!

You took a lot of heat for not doing things "fast enough" for some fans. Your patience and knowledge have paid off for this franchise. We now support a team that is free of 'thugs', troublemakers and nutcases and is competitive. You have built a lineup that plays well together, promoted a coach that gets results and is a team that I am proud to call "my team".

It is my hope that you remain with the Pacers in the years to come to enjoy the fruits of your labor and to further build on what you have started here. While I may have doubted you in the past, I held out hope that you would prevail in the end and you have in my book.

The Pacers are well placed to compete for a championship for the next several years should this lineup remain intact. The right addition in the offseason could speed up that process and push the P's into the elite level of teams in the NBA. It's all thanks to you and as a lifelong Pacer fan (even through these past few dark years) I want to say great job!

He should get executive of the year. He deserves it. He has been a MVP, coach of the year and now hopefully executive of the year. I wonder if that has ever been done before. I am convinced he can solve the attendance problem too. We are definitely headed in the right direction.

Wow, I never really gave that angle of it enough thought. The guy just wins at whatever he does.

That would be an awfully rare, if not downright unique, trio of accomplishments (NBA MVP, NBA COTY, NBA EOTY).

As far as I could see, no one has won all three. I went through the list of EOTYs snd a couple had MVP or COTY also, but none had both as far as I could tell.

I don't think anyone has EVER performed that particular hat-trick before.

Did Jerry West coach? Did Bill Russel GM? Sorry, my pre 1980 NBA knowledge is pretty sketchy at best. Those were the only two I could think of that might have even had the chance.

West did coach for a short time, but never won COTY. Russell never GMed.

He may not have to. The crowds that are coming now as of late are bringing a LOT of noise with them. The insanity from Area55 and G2Zone is spreading. Who wouldn't want to be a part of that?

I guess the main thing I am impressed with is Bird's patience.

It backfired of course with JOB, but, all in all, the guy has stuck with the right players through ups and downs and has really exercised control in not pulling the trigger on dumb trades. He finally put us in a place of leverage by having cap space. And we can still make another big move or two.

His patience has been impressive. If I had been given the reigns, I'm sure I would have made another Murphleavey type trade.

We went from 19th in the NBA in points scored per game to 11th in a matter of 2-3 weeks. We have scored 100 points or more the last 7 straight games in a row and also 18 out of our last 25 games. Pretty impressive. Also, many people realize we're 3rd in rebounding in the ENTIRE NBA? Crazy!

Bird always talked about a 3 year plan....if my math serves me correct, this is the 3rd season and I think we did damn good - and its only going to get better with our young players learning and with the cap space we have for FAs
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.

Not to mention, the three-year plan was to get back to ground zero so to speak, not championship contention or any thing.

I wouldn't say we're quite championship contenders. We're still a few years away from that.

The best team in the league is only 6.5 games better than we are...

I really feel like we are right on the edge at present time... I will not be surprised at all to see us playing in the final game of 2011-12... But I will also not be surprised to see us outted quickly in round two...

This is a crazy season... ANYTHING can happen... The Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, and Oklahoma City Thunder are not the only teams that have a true chance of playing in the final game... I'll say the same thing for the Memphis Grizzles, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, LA Lakers, & Dallas Mavericks... And I like our chances of doing it better than any of the others listed (Maybe sans the Lakers)...

And if Larry pulls off one more good offseason for us then we should be legimate contenders next year... Not a few years down the road... David West will be one year healthier and more comfortable with the system... Paul George should be a step or two (maybe more) closer to being that "Superstar" that a lot of people seem to think is 100% necessary to win a title... Danny Granger will be one year wiser by getting further from JOB ball... And Roy will hopefully take another step forward... If we make further positive roster additions to those core players I can see us being somewhere close to a 60 win team...
Nothing in life worth having comes easy.

Vogel, in a shortened season, won more games than JOb ever won, had a better winning percentage than Zeke ever had...and even a better winning percentage than Larry Brown ever delivered. Our GM has done a magnificent job.
