    Colts sign Mewelde Moore
Posted by Michael David Smith on June 19, 2012, 3:45 PM EDT

Mewelde Moore has a new NFL home, in a place where he’ll already know the offense.

Moore, a free agent running back who played the last four years in Pittsburgh, has signed with the Colts.

The 29-year-old Moore played his first four NFL seasons with the Vikings from 2004 to 2007 before signing with the Steelers in 2008. Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians was the Steelers’ offensive coordinator during Moore’s four years in Pittsburgh.

In his eight-year NFL career, Moore has played in 113 games with 15 starts. He has a career total of 494 carries for 2,247 yards and six touchdowns, plus 214 catches for 1,875 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Colts have also announced that they released quarterback David Legree, an undrafted rookie who signed with the team on May 17.

I've always admired Moore. When given a chance, he's put up very good numbers. I wonder where he will fall in the depth chart? I would not be surprised to see him getting a decent amount of touches. Honestly I wouldn't be too surprised if he started at some point this season.

It's about time we signed a talented RB.

You have to think Brown will get every opportunity to be the starter, maybe with Carter in the mix if he gets completely healthy and curtails the fumble-itis. Moore seems more like a 3rd down back and occasional relief touches elsewhere. If we see him as the outright starter it only means that the others have failed. Interested to see what the Ballard guy can do. How many RBs stick?

From what I've read the Colts are really impressed with Ballard. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Carter/Ballard/Moore committee this year. Donald Brown is possibly the worst blocking RB I've ever seen and he isn't good enough of a runner to make up for it. If he gets Luck hurt, I will be fuming.

I think that Luck has the tools to evade the rush if Brown manages to give up a block. Hopefully Carter continues to improve. I see him as our RB future.

I think he will be a very good addition and will fit much better than Addai would have. He knows the system and has always been good when given the opportunity.

I always think of this when I hear about Brown's blocking:

I do not see him starting at all, he is a 3rd down type back, and does a good job, I think he will be the guy to come in on 3rd downs when Brown is tired, not guaranteed he makes the team either.

He is not anymore talented than any of our other running backs, all have talent, but all have questions.

I agree with this all the way, I think 4 will be the most we carry, and it all probably depends on if the 4th guy can play special teams, the people in the running for that spot are Evans and Moore, both could get cut or 1 makes it, right now I am not sure which one I am giving the edge to.

Brown actually did pretty good blocking, most people think he has not because of the focus on the negative plays that he has had, his running has also been pretty good, but the thing with him is that so many people were not happy with the pick, and he did not produce right away so he has the bust label written all over him, and when he does something bad people always go to that "see he sucks line", but he has played better than most people think. Also with Brown and every other running back you have to remember we had a line and a offense in general that was targeted towards the pass and protecting the pass, it is not as easy to run in those types of offenses.

I would not put too much into the Ballard talk as well, I would wait until training camp to really see what he does, coaches always say positive stuff about young guys, unless they are really doing a bad job.

Again Browns blocking is not a problem, Carter has tons of potential and I expect a better outing from him this year.

It is not just the RB it is the system and amount of carries, DB averaged 4.8 yards per carry last year. There were 14 rb's that ran for over 1000 yards, the one with the least amount of carries to do it was Reggie Bush with 216, last year Brown had 134. If he would have received the same amount of carries as Bush he would have had 1036.8 yds on the season, so there you go.

I would say Brown ran pretty well last season once he was established as the primary guy. Certainly as good as he's run since he's been here (outside of a few games his rookie year, but this was a bit more sustained). I'm not sure he's the guy, but I will say he at least showed something last year behind a patchwork line and with a crappy O overall.

I think the ideal thing that happens is it turns into a successful committee approach with Brown/Carter splitting about 40/40 and 20% for Moore primarily as 3rd down or spot relief. If Ballard makes a splash great, but I'm not going there until he proves it as a rookie. I suspect Moore makes it based on his flexibility, experience, and familiarity with Arian's offense.

My best guess is Brown, Carter, Moore, Ballard stick.

Our RB's are better than you guys think.. Our line was pretty terrible.. Brown was great in college so im assuming he really does have talent, tho i am hard on him.. Carter on the other hand I know has a lot of talent.. His fumbles last year was a hoax, 0 fumbles his whole college career. That's not just by chance. He will get it back under control. Moore is solid but still worse than brown and carter. Don't really know anything about the rookie.
