to be fair, I don't think there is much of a choice for Orlando at this point. Could hold off till December to try and pry other assets from Nets once they have signed more FA's. But I would want to move on and not drag this out any longer.

@AlexKennedyNBA: The Magic, Nets and Cavaliers are in serious talks on a three-team trade that involves Dwight Howard and many other players.
Of course, Cleveland is involved. Gilbert's doing his best to ensure a non-Heat champion.

The Magic and Nets had been searching for a third team for several days before the Cavaliers entered the talks. Cleveland would take back Kris Humphries in a sign-and-trade and land a first-round pick as well, according to sources close to the situation.
Really? We have cap room (even if we match Roy), & our PF is older & on an expiring deal. Why would we not get involved?

Because Cleveland's 1st rounder will be a better pick than our first rounder.

because for it to work Humphries is going to need to get paid A LOT of money. more cap than we have.

I think you're reading it wrong. Cleveland is going to receive a 1st rounder AND Kris Humphries, but they'll have to live with the fact that they will have unleashed a Nets superteam on the world.

The number I've read for Humphries is about the same as Hill, a salary starting at around 8 mil. We have that much cap space as long as we sign Humphries first and then pencil in Hill and Hibbert and I think we'd still be under the LT in the end. It's not that far out of line for Humphries and it might put a stop to another super team.

We'll see what Humphries ends up getting. I'd put money on it being well above 8 million, but obviously that's fungible depending on a number of factors.

But it doesn't put a stop to a super team. It creates another one. Which is why it makes (a tiny) bit of sense for Cleveland. They're a long ways off. For us it makes none. It creates another behemoth, a team in complete win now mode like us, to try and get past.

I don't understand it then. What's the point of giving them a first rounder? This doesn't make any sense to me. Why sign-and-trade when you can let him walk?

I see Humphries as a solid, young PF. D.West expires @ yr end, & thatnks to passing on PJIII & Tyler sucking, we hav no successor. Pay KH starting @ 8/yr & Im good w/ that.

You have an idea how Pacers could obtain Brooks? I'd be interested as well!
If we picked up Brooks AND Green ( pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease ), then that would be a FA period of awesomeness. I don't see it happening though, unfortunately. Not only Brooks, but also Green. Sounds like Brooklyn is eager to either keep them around, or use them as trade bait.

PS: Is anyone else expecting the basketball gods to punish Dwight Howard and/or the whole Nets team for all these shenanigans in the coming year? I can't believe that, through all of this, Dwight may STILL end up in Brooklyn. Just a bunch of shenanigans. I can't help but look forward to whatever the Nets end up doing, though. I just want things to happen soon, or not at all.

Our arena, their arena, Rucker park, it just doesn't matter. We're bigger, longer, younger, faster, and hungrier.

They need the" sign" for the $'s. D.howard makes a lot. Nets do not have a lot, unless they sign Lopez & Humphries to make the saleries worl. ORL does not want Humphries, thus the 3rd team.

I wasn't referring to a sign and trade to help the Nets land Howard. If that's the price we could sign Humphries ourselfs and keep the Nets from being able to use him in a trade since he's and ufa. We need to add a player that can help the team anyway and I'd rather have Humphries then Brand even though neither player is my first choice. It's a good basketball move for the Pacers and it might stop the trade from happening if the Nets can't send back enough salary.

Dan gets a very good young PF & a 1st rd. pick & you mock him? Tell me what KP & DW have done w/ our cap space?

And thus Humphries getting a ton of money. Lopez'll be BYC. Which makes him untradable until January if I understand the new CBA correctly (which is admittedly a tossup).

    are you a Kardashian?
I ask because you sound more bitter about KH getting paid then how it benifits anyone to sign him.

I'm against Kris Humphries getting an 8 figure a year contract from us. Which is what makes this work.

    KH would start n/y.
No Roy (very possible), no EJ, no D.Will, no Nash, no Mayo (likely), no B.Bass,... Pacers have gone from the biggest players to battleing DAL for worst off-season.
(Yes, its early, but it's not looking promising)

Kris Humphries is a solid player. If you're cool with paying him 10+ million for multiple years then we just disagree on how good he is and the direction the franchise should take.
