I don't think we have a chance to trade DC this year, too many similar point guards are free agents(Watson and Brooks) why would a team give us anything when they can get this guys without giving up anything?

To be fair, I'm only going to get really concerned IF we let Hibbert walk and don't make a significant addition. Even if we just kept Hibbert I wouldn't be panicking by any means. If we get Hibbert and upgrade Barbosa's spot by getting Mayo or someone, I'll feel like we got better. If we can upgrade Tyler's spot I'll be happy with that.

It's too soon to just panic. We haven't done anything yet, but there's plenty of time to improve what was already a good team. And assuming we do that, we could have a lot of attractive pieces at the deadline to make another move. We're a potential ECF team depending on matchups if everyone comes back. The right addition, internal improvement, or trade can take us to the next level. Let's calm down a little bit, at least until it's official that we don't match Roy.

@ESPNSteinLine: Final trade terms being worked out but Hornets & Magic progressing toward agreement that'll put Anderson in same frontcourt w/Anthony Davis

@JimmySmithtp: League source says #Hornets acquiring SF Ryan Anderson from #Magic in sign and trade for Gustavo Ayon.

@AlexKennedyNBA: The deadline for the Chicago Bulls to waive C.J. Watson is July 10. They're attempting to trade him before that date, according to sources.

Good deal for the Bucks. Very nice frontcourt trio. It compliments their midget backcourt nicely.

@ESPNSteinLine: Hornets' forthcoming acquisition of Ryan Anderson, sources say, would not preclude them from matching Eric Gordon's offer sheet from Phoenix

The Hornets IMHO a lot of times make the kind of moves I hope we don't make. Signing Peja for a big amount, signing this guy. I don't get why they wouldn't want a more traditional big frontcourt player to their frontcourt. Adding Anderson in my view sort of negates the toughness and defensive asset you just gained in Davis.

Depends what kind of offense they want to run. Not a bad thing to spread the floor and pull Anderson out so Davis can dominate the paint more 1 on 1, especially being a rookie. Davis isn't a tough guy yet! Also, this will allow more lanes for Gordon to get to the rim.

Ayon is not a good complement to Davis so trading for Anderson is not a bad deal, either way I don't understand why NO is giving Orlando a piece they can trade to another team for picks or whatever to Orlando for free in Gustavo?

But a SF and SG isn't going to pull the opponents PF out to the 3 ball, Anderson will.

@daldridgetnt: Source says Ryan Anderson will get somewhere between $8-9M/yr in new deal w/Hornets, similar to Ilyasova's imminent Bucks contract.

I've heard it from multiple reliable sources that the Pacers' rebuilding strategy will be the plot for The NeverEnding Story 4.

Yep, That's our big move...overpay your 5th best player that can't get ya a championship!
By how much did we overpay George Hill, in your estimation?

Would you rather have had Ilyasova, Anderson, or Green at about a million more/year?

Would easily take Ryan Anderson over George Hill and Ersan I would have to think about. Jeff Green I want no part of he hurts his team more than he helps it IMO his contract is LOL bad IMO. Ryan is a deadly shooter who hits the glass top 10 in the entire NBA last year in wins shared. Offensively would make us a much better team could play both the 3 and the 4 and at the end of games make our team tough to guard and help Danny and Hibbert along with others get easier looks. A guy you don't have to call a play for and will get 15 for you is pretty damn valuable in the NBA.

It all depends on how much the FO didn't want to look like they had egg on their face.

Let's say the FO knew they weren't going to re-sign Hibbert. You think they can afford not to re-sign Hill? He'd be a 1 year rental while throwing away the #15 pick. A pick, Kawhi Leonard, who ends up as a starter on the Spurs. On top of that, Hill's a fan favorite. Plus he can be re-signed at a considerable savings compared to Hibbert. Then if you didn't re-sign Hill on top of not re-signing Hibbert, it shouts owner not willing to spend money. Hill gets re-signed.

I realize this is all speculative, something I try to refrain from doing, but I'm pointing out why Hill's agent was in the driver's seat. Even if Hibbert is re-signed, the FO can't let Hill walk b/c of reasons already stated.

Stop and think how much bad PR and negative criticism the Pacers and the FO would have to take from the fans and the general public. How do you get fans back in the seats by showing them you trade for a local boy/player who becomes popular with the fans only to become a 1 year rental b/c you won't pay him? Hence, agent has major advantage in contract talks, Hill agrees quickly to new contract.
I definitely think they can "afford" not to sign Hill. What we paid to trade for him is a sunk cost. Losing Hill, from that perspective, would be like losing Hibbert. Costly in terms of production on the court but ultimately not dire. I really, really don't think the "local boy" thing factored heavily into these negotiations. Fans care much more about Hibbert than Hill. If the front office was driven by a desire to please the fans, Hibbert would be a bigger concern than Hill.

Ultimately, I think the front office re-signed Hill because of continuity on the court and because he's a good to very good player. You can live with the 4th or 5th best guy on your team making Hill's amount of money when you don't have three 15mil+ max guys.

For the record, I think both guys are re-signed, probably at 1-2 million more than they are worth but not for the fans or for the PR but because we can't replace their talent and chemistry with our other main guys.
