I think we plan on making Paul George the backup at small forward (to get him more minutes than he was getting by only starting at the 2), so that's why we're not looking for a FA at that spot.

Adding Mayo gives us another guy that can play either guard spot off the bench; he can play with DC or with Lance.

Let's get rosey for a second and assume we're matching Roy.

    Hill/DC/Lance
    George/Mayo/Johnson
    Granger/George/Jones
    West/Hansbrough/Pendergraph (maybe flip these two?)
    Hibbert/Plumlee

That's where we'd be after Roy, Hill, and Mayo are signed.

To me if you sign Mayo or another shooting guard after drafting OJ, with Stephenson developing and PG starting you have a backlog at shooting guard. This would lead me to believe that Granger is on his way out at some point over the next year with George moving to the 3. Otherwise Mayo or whoever is signed and PG eat all the minutes at the 2 for the next several years while OJ and Stephenson rot on the bench.

The 76ers have decided to use the amnesty clause on Elton Brand and the $18M left on final year of his deal, league sources tell Y! Sports.

How does the money work if you pick these guys up? I can never remember.

He's probably headed to a contender. But I'd be fine with him coming off the bench here.

Mayo to Indy is probably dead if Kyler is reporting it.

Throw out 5 million and see if it sticks. My bet is that GSW or Kings sign him.

EDIT: Keep in mind people below the cap get first dibs on the player.

A 2nd round pick rookie doesn't automatically deserve minutes this year. Things will change year to year. If DC is gone, Lance will play with Mayo in the back court.

I don't think we should worry about signing Mayo because the likes of Dahntay Jones and 2 second round picks might suffer playing time, we are supposed to be contending not rebuilding.

My guess is he'll do the Chauncey Billups and threaten to not play if a non-contender bids on him.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

I've been watching a little of Orlando Johnson, I think he'll take a little to adjust to the speed of it all. He seemed a little laterally slow defensively, to me, also his shot not as 'pretty' as I would have thought. Nevertheless, I trust TBird over what I saw, but I still think its gonna be a process in spite of his nice college career and great measureables.

Chauncey threaten to retire so in theory you are correct but there would no consequence if a team decided to pick him up anyway.

That should have been green. I thought I had made it obvious I'm pretty much on the Mayo bandwagon.

I don't believe OJ will play immediately but should be ready by later this season or in 2013.

My point was if you give Mayo a 4yr deal, are resigning George and believe OJ and Stephenson can play moving Granger at some point (I said over the next year) would be the logical conclusion to me.

@TeamLou23: Philly, I appreciate you all. Unfortunately I will not be coming back, as an organization they decided to move in a different direction.

    Any interest in Williams?

interesting. what direction are they moving in? if they let him go and amnesty Brand, that's an awful lot of cap space.
There's no free agent left at that level.
Pau deal maybe? That's about the only thing that makes sense.

lots of interest @ $3M/yr, none @ $10M/yr. Dude is an undersized 2 trying to play the point, but he can score.

They should go after Courtney Lee, a better defender who doesn't have to have the ball in his hands. Especially considering they didn't tender Jodie Meeks.

And at some point in the next few months, they're going to have to trade one of their small forwards away for up-front help.

Pacers need a two guard, targeting O.J. Mayo, Courtney Lee

    Kurt Helin
    Jul 6, 2012, 1:41 PM EDT

While the Pacers front office is grappling with the big question — literally — of whether to match the Trail Blazers max offer for center Roy Hibbert, they are dealing with their other needs as well.
Specifically, they need to step up at the two guard. More accurately, they need to bring in a shooting guard sixth man who keeps the pressure on Paul George to perform and can get them some points.
And they are looking at two players with very different skill sets in O.J. Mayo and Courtney Lee, reports Mike Wells at the Indy Star.
Mayo is the top choice for the Pacers. He’s been their top choice for a few years now. The Pacers have “great, great interest” in Mayo, one person told me….
The Pacers have to decide how much they want to pay the former lottery pick and does Mayo mind continuing to come off the bench.
Lee brings better defense, is a better three-point shooter, is an Indianapolis native and probably comes at a lower price.
Lou Williams is also now fully on the market, he costs more but can also put up more points than either of these two.
Smart money is still on a good offer for Mayo, who can come off the bench and create his own shot, the roles the Pacers need to fill. But look for some movement from the Pacers in the next five days on this front.
As for Hibbert, we may have to wait until July 14 for an answer.
