    WHY WOULD THEY?
Why would they not? If Blazers really wont Hibbert, they should not get him for a signing only. They will throw Pacers a bone.

Look around at all the FA's and RFA's that have worth, all teams losing their player are getting highly compensated. No reason the Pacers shouldn't if they decide to take a deal from Blazers for Hibbert.

At this point what would you consider a victory? Ramon Sessions? Courtney Lee?? I said a victory not a grand slam we're headed for the title offseason.
We need to move DC & Hans for a big man who can score. Hansbrough regressed last year (this coming from a huge supporter of him) and we just invested starter $$$'s in Hill. Plus, both Hans & DC are up for new deals next summer - we won't have the cap room to sign them to larger deals while keeping the core intact.

the flaw in your logic is, the blazers have nothing to gain (outside from an extra yeah of hibbert's contract at a premium rate) by agreeing to a sign-and-trade, and the Pacers have zero leverage if they ever decide to go that route. We've been over this. Threatening to match an offer without a sign-and-trade agreement is as empty a threat as it gets, for a number of different reasons.

Batum is better then Williams will ever be
    that seems far from certain.

on a side note, what Williams needs is a team like the Pacers, not the Blazers. No wonder the Blazers refused, and in fact I think it's silly for the Wolves to make that offer, they are just killing Williams' trade value now. He would be a perfect backup 4 for us this year, however.

If we could do that then this off season would be even better. I think we should also look at Jordan Hill and Jason Thompson.

Well to me re-signing your own player and signing a bench player is not some kind of victory that's what teams do every year.

I would counter it with DWill and Pekovic....Webster is terrible!
Then turn around and trade them to the Pacers for Hibbs.

    Win win!!

    If only.

they can't get an extra year. but if they really want Hibbert, that's what they get in a SnT. He's restricted.

The question is how much value can Hibbert and his huge contract have. Not much, possibly nothing.

But honestly, if we go get Mayo I think that increases the likelihood of us matching Roy, because we wouldn't have the money to sign Kaman unless we dumped Dahntay and Hansbrough.

Waiting on trade rumors between Pacers and Houston because Houston needs a point guard. Darren Collison for Patrick Patterson, Royce White, Terrence Jones, Marcus Morris, or Luis Scola anyone?

Interesting group to choose from, I've always like Scola.

I guess I just have lower expectations than you about what our small market franchise can do in an offseason

If we could land Green and match Roy then I would consider this offseason as good.

Feels more like rearranging, unless you think Royce is a start quality type down the road.

And I do. I think he has a game similar to Ron Artest. I think he could be very good.

Also, I think Morris has a better chance of being good, unlike Hans.

Of the optoins from HOU for DC, I want M.Morris by far the most. IIRC Bird really liked him. PP is a bit undersized, Scola too expensive, & the others are unproven rooks.
I ask though, who is OUR b/u PG? Price? Hamilton? IMO we need better & that will cost us. Not sure D.Jones could land us a servicable b/u, but if so, do it. I want Mayo & G.Green because we someone to push P.George & danny, & as a possible option for us should we decide to move Danny down the road.

Jones could likely get us Toney Douglas from the Knicks, who I believe have an interest in DJ. Both expiring deals.

We went over this briefly and it appeared you lost your case.

Again, If Portland is just throwing an offer out there with really no commitment then you are correct. If Roy was like the middle of the ground player and was truly getting over valued, then you may be right.

However, This is not the case, again people undervalue our own players. Roy is a top 5 Center in the league, NBATV, David Aldridge stated that Hibbert is top 3 center behind Howard and Bynum and Bynum can't stay healthy and yet Hibbert pwned Bynum and Gasol last season. Hibbert pwned about everyone he went up against. Roy stays Healthy. This creates value and the want to have. You don't just let your RFA walk for the heck of it. We aren't talking JJ Hickson here people. Wake Up!!! Blazers either give or they don't get. Pacers Sign him and give Allen the finger!!!!

I think we plan on making Paul George the backup at small forward (to get him more minutes than he was getting by only starting at the 2), so that's why we're not looking for a FA at that spot.

Adding Mayo gives us another guy that can play either guard spot off the bench; he can play with DC or with Lance.

Let's get rosey for a second and assume we're matching Roy.

    Hill/DC/Lance
    George/Mayo/Johnson
    Granger/George/Jones
    West/Hansbrough/Pendergraph (maybe flip these two?)
    Hibbert/Plumlee

That's where we'd be after Roy, Hill, and Mayo are signed.

I still think DC (and possibly packaged with Tyler) might net us a better backup big, PF or C. We may still re-sign Fes.

If that all happens, consider my socks NOT blown off, but I liked our team last year and I think this one could be better. I think Mayo is better than Barbosa. I think a few of our guys will improve. I think the chemistry of our returning guys will improve (just playing more games together, Hill starting from day 1).

Still an underdog, but one I'm ready to roll with.
