Speaking of, the bidding process for Brand is right now right? How long is that, like 2 days?
It's either 48 hours or seven days.

CBA FAQ: 67. What is the Amnesty provision?

The above makes it sound like it follows the rules of the waiver wire, which would mean the bidding process would be a full seven days (the number of days a player stays on waivers if released between July 1 and August 14). With that said, this past offseason, it was just 48 hours. I'm not sure whether that's the norm, or if it was sped up due to the condensed offseason.

We should put a bid in for Haywood

Why? We have Miles. He was drafted cuz Bird thought that he was NBA Ready.....my expectation is that he should be the primary backup to Hibbert PERIOD. If not, then I have no CLUE why he was drafted in the first place. Getting Haywood's long-term contract on the books will hinder that.

A cheap backup C with championship experience... Yes please. I'd rather Plum have to earn his time on court.

Trade Rumor (ESPN): Blazers & T-Wolves discussing possible S&T that would send Nicolas Batum to Minnesota for two future first round picks.

A pretty good consolation prize, depending on lottery protection, if you ask me.
Wow.....has it been said as to why things turned really bad between Batum and the Blazers?

I mean.....things are so bad that even if the Blazers can get Batum at market value....they are willing to give him up for future 1st round picks.

Someone will have to confirm how the amnesty contract gets added to the SalaryCap....but Haywood has a 3 year contract that pays him $8 to 10 mil per year. My guess is that the contract will somehow impact the Capspace for the next 3 years. Either way, he's not going to come cheap and I want to make sure that Miles has enough minutes to properly develop.

I'd love to see the offer sheet. At first, it was supposed to be ~11 mil. But the last rumor I saw was that it's in the max range.

If the choice is Batum at max or two Wolves' picks, IMO that's an easy choice.
Those could easily be lottery picks. Especially considering this kind of decision making.

Mavericks to sign free agent center Chris Kaman to a one-year deal paying $8 million, source tells Yahoo! Sports.

I was hoping we'd get Kaman for this, as he would provide some much-needed inside scoring off the bench. I think Dallas still will find a way to bid on Brand, so methinks we'll need to bid more than a "bargain price."

I'm not enticed by Mayo at $8M or Lee for $6M, so get a back-up SF cheap (Green? Delfino?) and again wait til mid-season to trade for/pick up some instant offense.

This is the only signing that really disapoints me in our F.O. They couldn't do anything about Willaims or Nash, but Kaman was the last impact player left, and that's a very fair price considering what other free agents have made. We could afford 8 mil, and he'd really fill a need for us much more then yet another backup wing player.
I didn't really think they even try but I'm still disapointed. I could care less who we sign now between Mayo, Lee, or Brand. None of them will add the wins to this team that we could have had with Kaman.
I guess I'm old school but I still believe in having size in the front court.

You assume Kaman was okay with being a backup.

If you're Kaman, start 82 games and get a ton of minutes in Dallas, or play maybe 20 minutes a night off the bench in Indiana for what was probably near the same money. Not tough.

I'm glad he'll be on Dallas though, he'll get some more national exposure and people will realize how incredibly overrated he is.

Regardless of what Bird said, while I think Plumlee has some potential, it is going to take him a couple of years. We need a stopgap.

I think so if we assured him he'd still get starters minutes playing between the 4/5

Yep I agree, Kaman at that price was not bad at all, 8mil a year for a double double guy is pretty good.

if the Pacers are going to make any additional moves excluding trades, it will be within the next 24 - 48 hours correct. my understanding is Hibbert would need to be signed by 7-14? Or is that no longer accurate since Roy will not be signing the Blazers offersheet?

In essence we can sign Roy and Hill anytime we want??

Yep. Also recall that in the previous CBA, the Mavs amnestied the last 3 years and $51M of Michael Finley's contract.

LOL @ people who considered the Mavs as some underdog, feel good story team. It's a deep pocketed team that can make moves that other teams can't because of a deep pocketed owner willing to spend. If the league had a true hard cap as many people had clamored for, it would've stopped Cuban from winning a lot sooner than it would've stopped Lebron.

yes. of course, it's likely that they agreed on some deadline. Either way, I think we have more than till July 14th.

No timetable yet on when they'll actually sign Roy and George when I asked Wells on Twitter a little while ago.

I expect the Pacers to sign Roy and Hill soon(maybe in 48 hours like you are saying), or who knows they are maybe nice enough to give the Pacers a month or two?

indeed we do. Portland said they would match any offer for datum but he made it clear he doesn't want to play there so they are working on a sign and trade now. I think the same thing will happen with EJ which in turn would more than likely net us Mayo. I think right now we have a deal with Mayo he just wants to wait to see what happens with EJ in Phoenix bc if New Orleans does indeed match than OJ will get PAID in Phoenix.

Kaman played with Dirk on the German national team. No clue how friendly they are but that couldn't have hurt.

I think they'll at least give them time to make amnesty bids, but who knows.
