Apparently Jalen Rose has never filed his NBA retirement papers after retiring in 2007. And so the Suns could conceivably use him in a sign-and-trade, as Cuban did with Keith Van Horn and LA did with Aaron McKie a few years ago.
That loophole was closed after the Keith Van Horn deal... IIRC...

@sheridanhoops: Breaking news: #Nets are out of Dwight Howard sweepstakes. They will keep Brook Lopez, and probably Kris Humphries, too.
Can we still trade for Brooks? heh

Unless Howard wants to play for the mid-level, his dreams of being a Net are finished.

Not possible. Would have to be a S&T situation, and they have already proven that won't happen.
What prevents it though. I'm kinda cap dumb.

Nets will be way over the salary cap, so they will not be able to sign any player outright at max level contracts.

And the mini-mid level at that. Or taxpayer mid level, whatever it's called. The one that's 3 mil.

I can't believe I'm going to defend Dwight a little bit here, but....

I think it's probably more likely that Orlando is the one balking at deals, rather than Howard. If I was another team, knowing that the Magic/Howard relationship has to end, I would be trying to make a trade for as cheap for my end as possible.

I doubt they're getting a whole lot of good value in return for Dwight right now, but they need to make the choice whether or not it's better to get 50cents on the dollar or get 0cents on the dollar.

wouldn't newly-signed Lopez and Humphries be tradeable in January, if Orlando's prolonged Dwightmare were to last that long? (very unlikely, I admit)
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

They're balking at the details BECAUSE of Howard.

Howard has no obligation to broaden his list, and Orlando has no obligation to trade him. But it's in the best interests of both to do so sooner than later.

I cannot believe that Howard refuses to be rich in L.A. and play with Kobe and Nash. A beach house in Malibu sounds like a good life to me.
This is what I don't get as well......how can one not want to play with Nash, Kobe and Pau in Sunny LaLaLand? Geez.....WTF is so good about Brooklyn that he'd turn that down?

I know that there was this whole Kobe speech about him being the 3rd wheel....but your playing with Nash now....he'll dish it out to everyone so that everyone can score.

I get that. But I'm saying that the offers they are getting now is probably better than anything they're going to get. The longer this drags out, the less likely a team is going to come up and get to a level that's deemed acceptable to the Magic.

It's time to either poop or get off the pot.

The best part of the whole thing is that going to Brooklyn was Dwight's dream, and Dwight is the one who killed his own dream. Don't skimp on the poetic justice.

Is it possible for Dwight to sign a 1-year MMLE deal with Brooklyn and when that expires, re-up on a max deal?

Unless he is asking for $10+ mil a year ( which I don't think that he is ), from what we have read...all he is asking for is whatever his going rate is...$8-9 mil ( my guess )...but wants a multi-year contract....which is reasonable considering that he's a UFA. I don't blame him for not going with the rumored Cleveland deal where they wanted to just give him another 1 year contract.
I'm a Humphries fan. Dude rebounds and puts the biscuit in the basket. I think he'd be a very nice get for the Pacers. And, again, it hastens the departure of one Tyler Hansbrough. Keeps West fresher. Gives you the option to have 2 PF out there at the same time. I see no downside to paying him. Its not like he's asking for a crazy contract.

I don't think full bird rights apply to a 1-year semi- MLE deal.

No, because Dwight ( stupidly ) agreed not to exercise his ETO last season...which means that he's still on the Magic's roster. He's not a Free Agent or anything.

Or is it possible for Dwight to sign a 1-year deal with a team on another continent so we can all forget about him for a while and move on with our lives?

The would only be able to resign him after that contract for whatever room they would have under the cap... It would have to be a three year deal to obtain his Bird rights...

What a complete cluster ****. I'm starting to hope Shaw doesn't get hired just so he doesn't have to get mixed up in this ridiculous mess.

This is what I've been saying since Shaw became a candidate for Coaching in Orlando.....anyone joining Orlando will be taking on a huge mess of a FO and Roster that is CLEARLY rebuilding around Brook Frakkin Lopez and Big Baby.

Also...you get a THANKS for your Pritch-Slap avatar. You should update the MEME to say "You just got Pritch-Slapped"
