What do the Pacers need to do to advance to the ECF in 2012-2013? I say we need to upgrade both starting guard positions. We also need another big to come off the bench. I really like the front court of Hibbert, West, Granger

I fully agree, this is our last chance to get better without giving anything up.

Well if Williams or Nash won't come, maybe make a play for Lowry or Dragic? And another backup bigman who can block shots. We need more shotblocking off the bench IMHO.

All this talk about Williams and Nash. Although to get either one will be a homerun, I think Andre Miller is a pretty good consolidation prize.

Make no changes other than adding Deron Williams.

To go further than ECF, Hibbert needs to get Paul George in the gym and they need to push push push push push each other. Danny and David West can hang out and maybe Danny can learn how to be an NBA veteran that doesn't disappear in the playoffs' biggest moments.

Vogel needs to strap himself into a chair and watch Gregg Popovich's offense until he can call a game blindfolded, based only on the squeak of sneakers on a wood floor.

The biggest player addition that could be made is DWill and it's not even close. I know we're going to have a million threads about Williams and Nash this off-season, but the choice is obvious. DWill fits perfectly whereas Nash would make our team defense worse and he only has a few miles left on those tires. Getting DWill puts us immediately into title contention.

If we can't land Williams or Nash then there isn't another free agent pg that I'd want. We don't need any more good players, we need a great player to take us to the next level.
I think the approach after Willaims and Nash needs to be like the draft, go for the best player regardless of position. At least it gives us assets to help us improve by trade. Once Hibbert is signed we can't bring in any additional talent without giving someone up. I'd say go for Kaman as the best player left after Willaims and Nash. Then we could look at moving a big man and picks for a player like Rondo.

Has been said in the post game thread I think but obvious needs are

    -upgrade at PG
    -3 pt sniper
    -Rugged, defending interior player

Doubt you get all that done in one off season, but this would appear to be one where you might be able to pull off something significant. I also think if a can't miss deal comes along (again, that can't miss probably a long shot, but...) you have to operate thinking nobody is off the table for trades.
I'd rather die standing up than live on my knees.

I think that if we address of two of those three needs that D-BONE mentioned in one offseason, along with what our core's improvement (particularly PG and Hibbert, though this postseason will do leaps and bounds in of itself for the whole team), than we will be VERY good going forward.

    Brandon Rush?
In all seriousness, I feel like there aren't that many pure shooters left. The Nowitzkis and Ray Allens cost too much and the Kaponos and Bonners can't do anything besides shoot 3 pointers.

    My Dream Offseason:

Let Barbosa walk and sadly George Hill as well
    Sign Deron Williams for max
    Sign Mehmet Okur
    Trade Tyler for Dorrell Wright
Draft a Big with the 26th pick who is an offensive weapon

    Deron Williams/Darren Collison
    Paul George/Lance Stephenson/Dahntay Jones
    Danny Granger/Dorrell Wright/ Dahntay Jones
    David West/ Lou Amundson/26th Pick
    Roy Hibbert/ Mehmet Okur/26th Pick

Although we have to lose Hill I think this lineup could win a championship. Our defense for the starters would be outstanding and we would have great size. We could avoid our long stretches of offensive woes because we could go to pick n roll with Deron Williams. Our second unit would be able to light it up offensively and I feel Lou would fit in great with them because he would be willing to set the screens to get the shooters on our 2nd unit open and he would be great at chasing down the long rebounds our 3pt shooting 2nd unit is bound to have.

Whoever we get and whoever stays....just can't wait to see what Vogel does with a full training camp. Good things, I think.

Nash/Deron/Lin?? And someone like Novak to come off the bench... and expand on fez's game... or get a big guy off the bench that can be a defensive presence.

I can't wait to see what this team looks like when Vogel has a full offseason... I hope he takes full advantage and really works hard to improve this team. He owes it to himself

I don't think there's a chance Deron Williams comes here.

However, Steve Nash or even Jeremy Lin would be nice. We need someone with vision, creativity...who can make the difficult passes and put guys like Hibbert and West in a position to score. They are our strength.

I agree....I really hope that we at make a run at Nash or Deron....but partly because I think that Bird and Co are the type that would look to best fill as many holes in this lineup as possible while not "breaking the bank". I can see them looking at DreMiller or Dragic as the type of Players that will fill our needs at the PG spot while not preventing us from filling the other holes that we have in the offense and defense.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

A really key question for the Pacers is whether they want to stick with the current no superstar model, or whether they will pull out all the stops to get a "superstar", or at least someone significantly more talented than the current roster. Of the FAs, probably only Deron, Nash, and maybe Eric Gordon qualify.

I'm not sure what I feel about this right now. We've just been kicked in the nuts by 2 superstar players, so the kneejerk reaction is to go out and get our own superstar. But it's important to realize that even someone like Deron isn't the same level of superstar as James/Wade, and going after an expensive player like him is going to severely curtail our future spending.

Anyway, I suppose it's a moot question since I very much doubt whether Deron would sign with Indiana anyway.

First thing they need to find out is who is GM. Lots of interesting stuff, though. What Roy cost? What GHill costs? Who to draft at 26, move up or down. I love the draft, so offseason is fun for me too.

Trade our pick with Tyler and move up in the draft that would be my draft plan.

we need a better bench - our frontcourt depth is terrible - the wings aren't all that better.
need a player that can actually penetrate the defense and actually make a play - Barbosa was from time to time penetrating but he was way off with his shots and/or passes - plust he would wait till the last second to actually penetrate

our team should learn the zone defense and implement it - we have the guys who are tall and long - its mind boggling just how ineffective we are with it at the moment - i hope Vogel implements it for the upcoming year
