What offers are you talking about specifically? I'm not going after you for being a "Bird hater", I'm just curious. Saying he gets offered a great deal but turns it down because he is biased toward "his guys" is a pretty bold statement and I'm curious as to what you are specifically referring to.

Rush was one of "his guys" and was traded. Hibbert is "his guy", but no one wants him gone obviously. I know you don't like Granger, but I don't think Granger would bring in anything that great in a trade. PG is a Bird guy, but no one wants him gone. And don't you actually like Hansbrough?
I like Granger and I know nobody here believes that, what I hate is the "Danny apologists" around here, he can't do nothing wrong in their eyes and we can't even talk about trading him because people get all upset.

And regarding the topic, I don't have any prove other than the numerous rumors were Larry was going to make a trade and we were pretty much screwing the other team (Redick for Tinsley, Mcbob for Mayo, Ford for Augustin, Henderson, etc) I know some people here love that he likes to be the winner in every situation but to me sometimes you have to send value to get value back, those failed trades tell me that he values his players by a lot, hence the comments that "we would only trade Danny if we get an all star in return".

Note to those that are upset with my comments: this is my opinion so back off.

Well, on top of that it would have been a 20-something game rental, and not a guarantee to be re-signed. Instead we got Barbosa for a 2nd round pick.

That's true, but a good GM knows when it's time to quit being stubborn and refusing to admit they made a mistake and move on. Some just have thicker skin and less ego than others.
Sure, and my point is that Bird did that. He had no problems letting Shawne Williams, James White, and Brandon Rush go. Do we have any examples of Bird holding onto "his" players way too long?

You have said this twice now. Why? People are responding to you very amicably. Just because they disagree with you doesn't mean they are upset. Relax.

So your willing to let the Executive of the Year go based on a rumor?

    Interesting.

Also, I would turn down that trade too. Ray Allen has a season or two left, has shown a lot of signs of slowing down this year, and makes a lot of money. At this point, trading a first round pick and our only backup PF, helps us very little now, and hurts us in the future. Not to mention it would have moved Paul George to the bench.
I'd easily have taken Allen over Barbosa for the Playoffs ( assuming that the FO would have looked for additional trades to fill the Backup PF need that we'd have ).

I guess the question is whether the cost of a rental for a Player like Ray Allen was too high or not.
Ash from Army of Darkness: Good...Bad...I'm the guy with the gun.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

If the price was the same, I would rather have Allen over Barbosa too. But giving up Tyler and a pick (I assume that's a first) for an aging rental of Ray Allen is just too much. I don't think he would have made a substantial difference in our playoff fortunes.

Not his player but holding into Dunleavy for that long was a huge mistake, he should have traded his a** when he had that great year and instead kept him long enough to see his value go down the toilet, TJ Ford was another one? Tinsley? maybe?

You can't trade a player that no one wants.

Dunleavy in his best year? I'm pretty sure some sucker would have jumped all over that, I even remember that Antem was pushing for the Pacers to trade him that year and he was right, his value went to the crapper after that.

edit: Even Tinsley had some value that we were close to get Redick for him, the same thing with TJ Ford, we were "close" to get Augustin and Henderson for him, that last one hurts if you ask me

No one wanted him. One year isn't going to change people's minds on a player. Then you add in the knee issues and he was practically a dead fish.

GS had to take on SJax just to get rid of him. Larry would have gotten the EotY had he been able to swap crap for crap, and then crap for gold.

Dakich just said on his radio show that he has heard Bird will not be returning.
If this is really true, then I predict in time we'll learn that this is a Bird/Simon salary issue. Bird wants to get paid, Simon wants to reduce his pay. Heard this explicitly from people from within PS&E.

Someone was upset at him and told him to put that his statements are just his opinion at the end of them.

I feel as if Simon is holding us back. Doesn't want to pay executive of the year, doesn't want to go after RFA's, and doesn't want to go near the tax. All are pleasible and understandable from his perspective, but from our perspective it sucks.

So is not about the team but his own salary?

That's what I'm saying. I haven't heard it from Simon's lips myself, but I was told that Simon wanted to reduce Bird's salary this offseason... by two different people.

I've heard Simon wants Bird to move down from 5m a year to under 1.5m. I dont think Bird really cares about his own salary though(i mean he doesnt strike me as a big spender who cares about money) I think it is more about spending on the team.

At the time I posted mostly on RealGM. I was strongly pushing for us to trade Dunleavy - and while this is a teams fan base(not GM), about 80% of Raptor fans were willing to trade Bargnani and a 1st for Dunleavy. Again, just a fan base, but he did have value.

No matter how much you care about money, being asked to take a 70% paycut is going to **** you off.

If Simon is unwilling to spend, my interest in the fate of the Pacers decreases substantially. I hate to say it but it is hard to pull hard for a team if it is readily apparent that the owner isn't all in.

I'm not a BIG Bird the FO fan, BUT you can't argue the overall success Bird had this year. I don't really have a dog in this fight about Bird leaving per se, but it does seem odd to me after bringing the Pacers to the 2nd rd of the playoffs Bird would just walk away. Especially, when he kept talking about "his kids" like he was going to be here to help his kids get to the next level next year.

I really liked the "product" this year. I think Bird had a significant hand in seeing that through.

I'd like to see his version of the story all of the way through (which requires another 2 seasons IMO), given the improvement over the past 2 years.

Can other leadership get us to a championship too? Probably. I just see no reason for him to go anywhere, and would be sad to see him go.

But losing Bird is not like losing Hibbert or a core player. Morway/Pritchard will certainly work fine for us.
