...and i find it pretty contradicting to not have the DPOY in the First team. Talk about consistency

Defense player of the year ends up on all-defensive 2nd team.....I'm curious, how many times that has happened?

No Paul George. I guess his reputation just isn't there yet.

Is Kobe really still an elite defender or is he getting by on reputation?

One of the voters is either completely deranged or extremely sarcastic. Hopefully, for their sake, it's the latter.

PG hasn't looked like he has any business being there. He has amazing hands and is great with deflections but he really bad in other areas. You shouldn't make the all NBA squads by being really good at one thing and pretty bad at others, like defending through a screen...

Every time has Paul tried to go over the screen on Wade and James and it is a disaster each time. Maybe that is what the coaches are telling him to do, but it is not working at all. Make those guys shoot jumpers!

Not that unusual because the coaches vote for the first and second all defensive teams. Media votes for defensive player of the year

    NBA All-Defensive Team - Wikipedia

According to that list, it's happened two times previously:

1986: The Spurs' Alvin Robertson voted to the 2nd team, while Mo Cheeks (76ers) and Sidney Moncrief (Bucks) made the 1st team
1995: Atlanta's Dikembe Mutombo voted to the 2nd team behind San Antonio's David Robinson.

The Defensive Player of the Year award was originated in the 1982-83 season.

1986 is interesting. Mo and Moncrief are two of the best all-around defensive guards in NBA history. Alvin Roberston had quick hands and led the league in steals that season and is in the top-10 all time in steals but other that that was nowhere near the all-around defender that Cheeks and Moncreif were. Same could also be said for Mutombo leading the league in blocking the shots of little guards in the paint but David was the better post defender -- and Mutombo was the better goalie.

Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Kobe is a mediocre defender. There are a lot of SG's better than him on defense.

No question. He used to be a good defender but his defense has fallen dramatically both in skill and effort as he has aged.

I don't really have a problem with the DPOY being on the 2nd team. Dwight, when he is healthy, is clearly the best defender in the league (Lebron is the only one with a real argument). The coaches just don't penalize for missed games and drama as much as media members.

How did Iggy not get in? He's one of the best wing defenders in the league.

How did Wade and Bosh get left off, don't they play for the Heat?

Yea....Going to have to disagree with you calling him a mediocre defender. I believe you can make a good argument that there are a couple of SGs who are more deserving to be on the 2nd team than him but it isn't that many. If you truly believe he's a mediocre defender you really need to watch more SGs play.

There are at least 25 shooting guards I can think of off the top of my head that are better defenders than Kobe. He used to be a very good defender, (though never great, no matter how bad his supporters wanted it to be so)

For all the people who've watched Kobe, please watch Manu, Afflalo, Harden, Wade. Those guys can play incredible defense.

When George Hill is above 15% usage we won 73.5% of games. Below 15% usage we won 61.9%

Obviously Iggy should be above Deng. Deng has become the "sexy" pick in NBA circles. The hipster pick... Iggy is way better than Deng. Ridiculous really.
