    Default The 7-Year Itch

Can you guys believe that it's been 7 loooooooong years since we've won a ****ing playoff series???? The last win was the crazy/ugly 7-game Boston series with Reggie on the team in '05. Think how many things have happened to this team since then, how many players have come and gone.

04-05 44-38. The brawl. Miraculous winning season with Reggie as #1 offensive option. Pacers defeat Celtics 4-3, lose 4-2 to Pistons in round 2. Reggie retires. DG drafted.

05-06 41-41. Post-brawl season. Artest traded for Peja, Pacers lose 4-2 to Nets (AJ's 40 pt game 6 etc)

    (edit: rabidpacersfan moves to California...)

06-07 35-47. Carlisle fired at end of season. The dreaded "Murphleavy" trade happens over the summer. JOB hired.

07-08 36-46. 1st year of Murph-JOB-eavy hell. Donnie Walsh leaves. JO traded in summer for Hibbert etc.

    08-09 36-46. 2nd year of Murph-JOB-eavy hell. Danny's All-Star year. Hans drafted in offseason.

09-10 32-50. Ugh. Think I just threw up in my mouth a little. We draft PG and Lance in the offseason.

10-11 37-45. FINALLY JOB gets canned. Vogel takes over and we squeak into the playoffs. Pacers lose 4-1 to Bulls. Murphleavy contracts expire!!!! Hill picked up on draft night. Vogel hired as permanent coach. West acquired in FA.

    11-12 42-24. Redemption! Round 1: Pacers defeat Magic 4-1. Round 2: ???

    --------------

It's really pretty incredible how long this team suffered post-brawl. I'm enjoying every minute of our current playoff run.

And now for some dancing fruit.

Crazy to think this is the first post-Reggie series win. Feels like he's been gone so long. This really is a "new era." There for awhile I was sort of worried we'd be an also-ran forever. Clearly not.

It's been nearly 2,500 days before we finally won another playoff series.

This is also, I believe, the first EVER Pacers NBA series win without Reggie Miller on the team.

That sounds extremely unhealthy, you should really consult a doctor or put some cream on it or something...

I became a fan at the end of that 04-05 season. Losing is the only constant I've known about the Pacers. It sure feels good to have that changed.

At least we didnt fall as bad as the Knicks did. They finally got their first playoff win in what 10 years. We really havent had it that bad. I'm glad the Pacers had some 30+ win seasons while they rebuilt. I hate teams that pack it in and dont try. It would be cool if the NBA had relegation like European soccer. Let some teams fall down into the D-League for lack of performance.

In Charlotte's case, they might fall THROUGH the D-League....

It's amazing to me how far we have come in just two short years since 09-10. That season was HORRIBLE. When Jim O'Brien is coaching the likes of Troy Murphy and Earl Watson in your starting lineup then you know you have a pretty bad team. Since then we have added: PG, Hill, West, and Collison amongst others while shredding all of the overpaid mediocrity that filled our roster. Oh, and we've added Vogel as our coach. That is just incredible improvement in a very short amount of time.

Not even a mention of Jasikevicius? that's like revising Lakers history since 2004 and not mentioning Kobe.
