What a great night, capping it off with finding out it was Mel's birthday was fantastic.

My favorite crowd sign was the set that said "I got a cowbell and it can only be cured by MORE FEVER!"

I could allllllmmmmmmmmooooooooost make an argument for Erlana Larkins to get a nod for series MVP because I really think her contribution was the missing piece the Fever have needed for a long time - and kudos to Coach Dunn for having the guts to make such a HUGE lineup switch in the playoffs then sticking with it. When it comes right down to it, though, the MVP is the opne who puts you on her shoulders and carries you to the finish - no question that was Catch.

They didn't print up anywhere near enough championship t-shirts, so they ran out long before we could get to one. The hat is what I really want.
I think a case could have been made for both Larkins and Shavante.

Also, this is why trying to always be in contention is better than just flopping out. No one thought the Lynx were going down this year, but it happened. You have to give yourself the chance to make history.

Erin and January were fantastic too. Offensively and defensively.

The whole team was great, but Catch was the best player on the floor in every single game.

Yes, it really was a team effort. Zellous, January, Phillips, Larkins - they were all pretty good and each had moments when they stepped forward to make a big play. All of them were instrumental to securing the championship.

But Catch is the heart and soul of this team. The intensity and toughness everybody played with - Catch is the center of that, and when the Lynx made their runs Catch came through with a clutch basket each time. Is there any doubt that with all the injuries they've persevered through, an injury to Catch would have been the one they couldn't get past? She talked to the NBA TV crew after the game and told a story about how she went into halftime and laid into her team a little bit. "...to see what we did on Friday, to come out here, to get a lead, then let them back into the game - that's just not acceptable. All my teammates, you could see their eyes get wide, like OK - Catch is pissed off, we need to figure out what to do...they definitely responded."

There ya go. The leader of a championship team.

    Tamika Catchings. MVP!

The Fever made 72 of 78 free throws in the finals. That is amazing.

This is kind of cool, especially the drive and kick from Catch to January and the Zellous three + crowd reaction. All at half speed or so.

I loved this, especially Catch's Reggie story and Bri's passion (though Bri slips a bit, so slight NSFW warning).

Anyone wanting Bill Laimbeer back in the WNBA is going to be happy.

    === Bill Laimbeer appointed Liberty's coach/GM ===

New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Liberty named Bill Laimbeer the
team's new head coach and general manager on Thursday.

Laimbeer, a former WNBA Coach of the Year, replaces John Whisenant, who
compiled a 34-34 record in his two seasons guiding the Liberty.

"We're excited to have Bill Laimbeer join the New York Liberty as our general
manager and head coach. He has brought his winning pedigree and passion to the
WNBA and I believe he will play a large role in bringing a championship to the
Liberty," said Allan Houston, the New York Knicks' assistant GM, who also
oversees Liberty basketball operations. "We appreciate coach Whisenant's
dedication to our team and the organization, and wish him well in the future."

Laimbeer brings to the Liberty of wealth of success in the league. From
2002-09, he served as general manager and head coach of the Detroit Shock --
the franchise is now based in Tulsa -- and captured WNBA titles in 2003, 2006
and 2008. The Shock posted a 137-93 record during his tenure.

A 14-year NBA veteran, Laimbeer was a member of the Detroit Pistons teams that
    won back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990.

He's honestly awesome for the league.

Probably the best coach, and easily the best GM (and one of the best personalities) the league has seen.

It makes me even happier the Fever won the championship. The East just got a lot tougher next season.

I hope the Fever run up the score on the Liberty if the opportunity presents itself.

Katie had ankle surgery in December - seems like it was more than just a bad sprain. She was interviewed at halftime of the IND-MIA game tonight.

Hmmmm, looks like the Fever signed Laura Harper as a free agent. Apparently she was good in college, but I don't remember her. A 6'5" PF/C. I think they're stockpiling tall players to combat Brittney Griner next year.
