Default Thunder intend to keep both Harden and Ibaka

    http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap...h_Harden_Ibaka

Sam Presti said the Thunder are expecting to sign both James Harden and Serge Ibaka.

"We're looking forward to having those conversations," Presti said. "Those guys are guys we drafted and have developed internally. We see them as guys who are important to sustaining our team."

There is speculation around the league that the Thunder eventually will have to pick between Harden and Ibaka, both of whom will become restricted free agents at the end of next season.

Harden is set to earn $5.8 million and one assistant general manager believes the third-year player could command as much as $10 million per year in free agency.

I find that very hard to believe, unless one/both takes a bit of a paycut. I don't think NBA players restructure deals (Durant/Westbrook) to try and keep players.

I don't see them being able to keep all 4?

I think Harden benefits greatly from having Westbrook and Durant getting double teams and most of the attention from other teams. I bet his numbers go down elsewhere. Still, he's a good defender and I wouldn't mind trying to get him.

Ibaka is also a great shot blocker and has athleticism to be a great complimentary to Hibbs.

Would really love for the Pacers to go after one of these guys.

    Thoughts?
Lance + Starting SG = Awesome

    Now really free Lance!

I only think we can sign 1 player for the kind of money I think they will command and I want it to be a PG...

Don't get me wrong though, I think either would be great on our team...

How are they going to afford both of them while already paying Durant/Westbrook/Perkins? I have the feeling they're going to lose at least one of these guys.

I think they have about $40M tied up in Durant/Westbrook/Perk.

If they sign Harden to $8M and Serge for $6M, that's $54M in 5 players.

You lose guys like Maynor, Sefalosha, Collison etc...at least, I would think so.

Those two are going to get way more than that. I'd guess Harden gets $13M per and Serge gets at least $10M. If OKC doesn't offer both of them at least that much, they'll certainly sign one-year contracts so they can hit free agency in two years.

I would easily give Harden the max.

I'm not nearly as in love with Ibaka as most seem to be.

Agreed!! I think Ibaka is more of a shotblocker than an all-around defensive ace.

People are wondering how they can re-sign both Harden and Ibaka, how could we sign them while re-signing Hibbert and Hill?

Also, I think you get more bang for you buck by signing Harden instead of Ibaka. You might as well trade Granger in that scenario though. Ibaka would like nice to Hibbert. Then again, West has been looking good next to Hibbert recently. Idk who I'd sign... if it's the same price, Harden I guess. If Ibaka is cheaper, Ibaka.

Again though.. can we afford either?

I'm not loving either, let a Memphis sign one.

I suggested that we trade for one last off season with a thread here. There is no way the Thunder let both go. They will probably have to let one of them go however. Also, we wouldn't look to sign more than one, because we couldn't.

Frankly, I think Harden will get a five year $50M deal from the Thunder. That is good value from both sides.

Ibaka would be the one I would target. As a big man, we have seen others in the same category as he get $10-13M per year. I think an offer of about $9-10M per year should be his value, but it won't be. It will be about $11-12M because of the deal that Deandre Jordan got last year. If I am the Pacers FO, I would be aggressive looking to give him a deal. He is that defensive PF/C that is a force blocking shots and makes us an even longer team. Deandre does way more for our rotation than Hansborough does and Amundson would be a much cheaper long term option in our front court than Hans. We could even trade the Thunder Hansborough for one of the other young players they won't be able to keep to even out both rosters.

any NBA team can keep 4 max contract guys and one half max contract guy. the rest of the team will be rookie contract and vet min guys, but it can be done. 13 x 4 = 52 + 8 = 60. that leaves about $10M for the rest of the team, but it can be done.

which is a good thing as the pacers will be doing the same thing in the next couple of years.

You know, I think I would offer Harden the max, if and only if we can't get Nash or Williams. We would have to renounce or trade Hill (to OKC in S&T?) but he would provide the bench with a HUGE boost.

Harden in at SG, Granger out (w/ Collison for a PG upgrade ?), (Paul) George to SF abd we're off to the races...

Harden would not be coming off the bench for us.
