Default Interesting...is Miami tanking to play Indiana?

That's the collective opinion of the ESPN/ABC guys, anyway. Miami told LeBron to sit out tonight as well as Bosh, and Magic is taking that as a sign that they want to set themselves up to play Indiana in round 2 (as opposed to Boston). I'm not sure what to think about this, but it's a sound theory, though it's not as much a slap in the face to Indiana as it is a sign of respect to the Celtics.

Wilbon is at least giving Indiana a chance to be a threat to Miami in round 2, but the rest of the crew is dismissing them entirely.

An update: Miami pulled Wade after he jammed a finger (seriously?), so the Heat are playing from here on out without any of the big 3.

Seems like it's more of a slap to the face of Atlanta (If tanking is the case)

It's an interesting theory. I'm sure Miami is scared of Boston. They have absolutely no answer whatsoever for Rondo. If Rondo doesn't go down in game 4 last year then that series probably goes to 7.

Intentionally giving up home court to Chicago should they meet? They had no problem last year but that's last year. I would go for #1 regardless of who I faced in the second round.

Doesn't make sense when they could still win home court advantage throughout the playoffs. I think they are just resting guys, but still trying to win.

I don't think that makes sense. Why try so hard to beat Chicago, then?

Even after that win, they were 1.5 games back with just a couple games to play. I think they're content with the 2 seed and want to rest guys before the big run.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

If it's true I feel even better about playing them.

If you truly think you should be champion, you just play whoever is lined up and beat them. You don't duck or dodge anyone.

It might be a combination of resting their players and avoiding Boston if possible.

Interesting. A group that said they would win "not 5, not 6, not 7" championships is now strategically losing to duck a 4 or 5 seed in the playoffs?

Unless they respect Boston so much that they feel that Boston would dispose of Chicago in a series, in which case they would still have home court in the ECF's against Boston.

I'm of the opinion that slowing down at seasons' end for whatever reason is almost always a bad decision. Just ask the Colts.
There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

They are not tanking to play us per se. But they sure as hell prefer to play us than Boston.

Maybe they'll just lose to the Knicks in the first round, then.

I think that's a reach. I just don't see any professional looking that far ahead. If anything, they should be lining themselves up to play Philly instead of New York. Nice easy series to give you time to prepare for whomever in round 2.

It looks like Miami thought they could slide through this game with just Wade and sneak in some rest for Wade and Bosh. Wade got hurt after two minutes so they overplayed their hand slightly.

I can't see Miami being terrified of Boston in the playoffs. They had their regular season troubles with them last season and rolled them in the playoffs, same with Chicago. Deep teams matter less when LeBron is on the floor for 46 minutes of a game.

Disappointing for me though, Indy and Miami are my two favorite teams. I was really hoping they'd have a chance to play in the ECF.

I don't agree with that at all. You're either trying to win or you're not. The heat without wade Lebron and bosh are the miami bobcats, and they pulled wade with an injury most of us play through in rec ball.

The reasons behind it are open to interpretation, but that WAS tanking.

Yep and Shaq explained few days ago that they used to do that in LA, they didn't want to face Utah in the first round so he would get a call to sit or get "injured" so they would lose and play who they wanted to play.

What's the logic then, why put Wade in for two minutes? It looks to me like they tried to balance getting the win with getting some rest and just missed getting both.

I don't think Miami was trying their hardest to win the game, but it doesn't look like they were trying their hardest to lose it either. With a healthy Wade they probably do win that game, which is what they had planned on.

They had a healthy MVP candidate and sat him. They pulled wade with a boo-boo.

Wade has been playing like crap lately. They likely wanted him to get into a groove before they shut him down as well.

After going through the "Recommendations on where to ??? in Indy" thread, I'm thinking that the only reason why the Heat want to play Indy is because LeDecision and Wade just want to go get a steak at St.Elmo's when they visit
Ash from Army of Darkness: Good...Bad...I'm the guy with the gun.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.
