Default What laptop do you use/recommend?

My previous Acer laptop broke down a while ago and I need to get a new one. There are just so many different kinds out there so I was just wondering what are some laptops that you guys use or would recommend?

    Thanks!

I've had a Lenovo that has served me well for a few years now.

    Thanks!
Dell. The service is outstanding. I had a couple of keyboard problems with my last one and they came right out and repaired it. ...

Usually just depends on what you're going to be using it for.

Some software I'm going to be using didn't work well with my AMD II Dual Core Processor, so I had to go out and get a laptop with an Intel Processor.

The Toshiba Satellite (one with AMD) has served me well and the new one I got is a Lenovo that is a bit more powerful than my 2 year old lapop. Intel I5 Processor, 6 Gig of Ram, 500 Gig HDD, Windows 7 64 bit and 15' or so screen.

Fun fact on Lenovo: they are majority-owned by the Chinese gov't.

sounds like you got the step up of the one i got a couple months ago. I got the i3 version with 4gb of ram, everything else is the same.

I'm pretty happy with my Lenovo. i'm really impressed with this i3. I'm able to run sc2 and dota 2 without any problems (no max settings or anything). The laptop is getting me by until I build my new PC. I won an intel dx79si motherboard and it just came in yesterday. It is glorious.

We didn't know we were going to have problems with the AMD Processor, but a friend and I recently got a Numark NS7 digital DJ board, and the program that runs it is Serato ITCH, I believe.

But Serato doesn't run well with AMD's and it would barely work on my friends laptop, and when I plugged in mine it would work, (had a better AMD Processor) but we still can't be out at a club/bar and have that **** mess up.

So we got the Lenovo with i5, and so far no problems, I haven't really messed around on the board since the new laptop but my friend has and he says it runs great now.

Lenovo makes good laptops, especially the Thinkpad series. I have a beefed-up Thinkpad x220, and it's just fantastic, though it didn't exactly come cheap. But they have cheaper Thinkpads, starting at $549.

    Lenovo.

I used to be a Dell guy, but something changed 3-4 years ago. Build quality went way down with the E-series latitude, and their support really fell off as well.

At my old company we averaged a support call a month with Dell. Started buying Thinkpads a little over 2 years ago, and they've never had to call Lenovo, not once.

[edit] Now, that said, I've never seen a consumer-grade laptop that didn't go to ****. I'd be surprised if Lenovo's are any better. If you get a laptop with a one-year warranty, expect it to last a year.

Hell yeah, I wanted us to get the i7 because it is the best one you can get right now, but we didn't want to drop another grand on a laptop after already dropping a grand on the DJ board.

But i5 will probably be more than enough for what we need.

I had no idea AMD was lame, the dude at BestBuy said they are usually for graphics and ****, and that isn't what we're going to need at all.

Haha yeah honestly the i7 is overkill in most aspects, but the mobo i won is ridiculous and only works with the i7 haha. Its also better "future proof" this way.

AMD makes solid stuff, but they really do get outperformed by Intel nowadays. AMD is all about six core and eight core processors while Intel's quad core processors perform better.

I love my Macbook. It runs like a dream and is good for my video editing.
