Peyton Manning called Indianapolis newspaper reporters to say thanks

Peyton Manning spent part of his Thursday morning calling newspaper reporters in Indianapolis to thank them for the work they did during his 14 years with the Colts.

How rare is that nod to Miss Manners? One of the Indianapolis Star reporters who received a call said it was the first time a departing Colts player had ever contacted him to say goodbye.

"Manning said he hoped he could stay with Colts, but understands the biz," Wilson wrote in a later tweet. "He told me to pass along to the fans how much he appreciated them. That's the first time I've ever received a good-bye call from a Colts player in my journalism career. Classy move. Wished him the best."

You get the feeling that when Peyton's twins are old enough, he's going to be the type of dad to leave notes in their lunchboxes.

I wonder if he thanked Kravitz for running him out of town?

Kravitz never ran him out of town. Kravitz was one of the few and first to try and soften the blow when it started to become inevitable that Manning was in all likelihood going to be wearing a new jersey this coming season.

A lot of people that were blindsided by the move could've benefited from listening to what Kravitz was saying.
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

I will have a difficult time rooting against him. As for NFL, I'm a fan of Peyton Manning first and the Colts second.

I'll be a fan of the Colts first and Manning second. I like other teams and players but after the colts I am a big Manning fan and hope he comes back to the team after his playing days are over.

Good for you. I am probably not a real Colts fan. I ride the bandwagon though...

Peyton is such a class act. I will always love my Colts, but Manning will always be my second pick. Unless he faces the Colts.

    And a whiner.

Quick story since I saw Brandon Stokley has signed with the Denver Mannings. During one of the training camps Peyton and Stokley were room mates and very good friends. Sometimes to get the mind away from the rigors of camp the players would get ping pong tournaments going.

At one of these apparently everyone was kind of bragging about all the big college bowl games they had played in and it seemed Peyton was bragging the most. Stokley decided to have some fun with his friend and said "well Peyton that's nice you played in those bowls, but there's one you haven't. That's the super bowl". Apparently Peyton didn't take too kindly to the joke and was p!ssed at Stokley for a week.
